Why would you want to leave Carlton?? unless the people there were complete wkn jobs (highly likely) they have Judd+Fev are about to play finals and are touted as a genuine premiership chance with the talent they have.

There are also 14 other clubs in the league that would be interested, if he left this year it would cost us our first rounder (after the PP if we get it) we might get away with a second rounder and a really good player. Next year if he is uncontracted it would still be one of the above.

If this draft is as bad as many say would it be worth trading him for our second pick (if we get the PP) which would effectively be pick 4-5-6 which is basically where he went last year anyway. On paper it would be worth it but to me he seems like a Sampi MKII.

All most probably crap though anyway.

a straight swap with mckinley would make sense, atleast if hes not in the eagles team he could be tearing it up for swanny d's again :P

The Blues are interested in McKinely and McKinely seems keen.

IF Yarran needs to live in Perth the Blues didn't do their due diligence too well.

McKinely + pick 22ish is a fair deal, by wanting out and not showing too much Yarran's value has dropped..............then again this is a weaker draft!:o

I'm sure the Eagles are doing their due diligence.:thumbsu:

They also mentioned on MMM that he mightve attending a funeral of some sort, or a family related thing.

Edit:
Well my infos 1 hour too late. Having said that if anyone properly listened to MMM they wouldve known that info yesterday

Who says Ben is interested in going to Carlton? Last year it was rumoured that the scum were trying to entice Ben over and he said he wants to be a one team player and signed a new contract with us.

I would love for such a scenario to be true, but isn't it the case that draftees can't be traded in their first year out though?

Still it would be so very sweet if this scenario arose when we had the upper hand in terms of PSD position. You can imagine eagles negotiators sitting down and proposing, with a very straght face, a straight swap for Ashley Hansen, or a 3rd Round draft pick.

Don't like that? There's this thing called the preseason draft...

Not sure where all this is coming from. Yes, Yarran is an exciting prospect and high draft pick. Yes, McKinley has had a poor year.

But to offer Carlton McKinley, who kicked what, 45 goals last year? PLUS a 2nd round draft pick??

McKinley has 63 goals 41 behinds in 31 games after being drafted at #29. Last year he had about the youngest midfield going around delivering him the ball.

Yarran has 3 goals 2 behinds in 5 games after being drafted at #6. He has arguably the third best midfield delivering him the ball and the crumbs from one of the leagues best FF's to work with.

One has proven he can kick goals. One could still turn out to be a dud in the AFL as some young prospects unfortunately do.

I would rather keep McKinley, as somebody else said we have plenty of talent in the forward line; if we can ge the mix right, it could be very, very potent. And whilst McKinley has had a poor year, he has shown us his ability, and should be persisted with.

IF he was to go to Carlton, I wouldn't offer anything more than a straight swap. Otherwise, it may turn out to be a Phil Smart-like decision.

Well, that puts this one to bed then

I think you are far too excepting of the Carlton spin Larri.

While the death on an "uncle" may indeed be a reason to "down tools" and hop on the first flight home, he has taken every single opportunity to head back to Perth this year. I mean he tries to get home if a family members toenail drops off. I would suggest that no other draft pick has had anywhere near as many trips home as Yarran and Carlton can spin this anyway it wants but the reality is that (a) Yarran has always had some baggage (b) he was always likely to struggle with a move interstate (c) they moved his mum to Melbourne with this in mind - and then she left and moved back to WA (d) his dad is in prison in Perth (e) his 2 best mates since they were kids got drafted by WA teams - which isnt helping Yarran settle and (f) his football is reflecting, not just youth, but also that his heart isnt in it.

Carlton can and will spin this as best as possible but they would be very very worried that he will not last in Melbourne and that his value will be diminishing by the day. Of course the flogs on the Carlton board will deny this because they are drinking the Kool-Aid.

Yarran wants to be in Perth.

To the poster trying to compare McKinley and Yarran :D ... ok, sure.... but there isnt a club in the country (homesickness aside) that would rate McKinley within a round (thats 16 picks) of Yarran, and as small to medium forwards (which is what they are) Yarrans ceiling is far higher than McKinley unless McKinley can find some speed and some aerobic capacity.

I am sure you meant "accepting" but I digress.

We've had our fair share of basket-cases - we don't need anymore. In the few games he's played at the elite level Yarran has shown a bit but not enough to warrant losing McKinley.

if we can get Yarran and keep McKinley I would be rapt.

Yeah, fair point.

What I meant was it has put to bed the "walked out on the club" stuff

I'm not convinced Yarran seemed happy from the start. Not that I actually know but after a while you tend to be able to read things between the lines. I actually wanted us to recruit a tall. Would've made much more sense to me. Fev won't be around forever. Given it takes 3 years to develop talls I'd like one hand for when Fev's time is up.

There was a article in the MX (Melbourne newspaper) earlier this year (front page) of a top 10 draftee from WA who went to a Melbourne club last year who was in trouble with the law for a very serious matter. The club in question was furious as they did not know of this matter when they drafted him. The court suppressed details due to the matter occurring when the said player was a minor.

Of course no players were named so it could be anyone

Yarran would be equivalent to a new car. It depreciates considerably as soon as you drive it out of the showroom.
Don't pay over the odds for him if he doesn't want to go back.

You can't have Chris. Thats All.

.. But furthermore I do worry that he wants to leave and look after his mother and if that were to for some reason happen you could always give kennedy back :)

Could/should/would we trade our first round draft pick for him?

No. No. No.

I say again, the bloke is unproven. Has shown very little in the few games he has played this year. To throw away a 40+ goalkicker or a first round draft pick would be mistakes.
