It's that time of year again, what is everybody getting their partners?

This is the first year for a while i've had a girlfriend and i'm finding it hard to find a decent present for her. I don't know weather to go for something sentimental or just get her something expensive, either way i still have no idea what to get her.

I'm single atm but my family are all coming to my place. I have just moved into my own home. As I have been living overseas don't have much furniture or utensils so have asked the family to buy presents that I can use in the home.

Go for something expensive –diamond necklace or some sort of expensive jewellery always does the trick.

Leave the sentimental crap for your anniversaries.

But beware that girls remember every present ever given to them.

I have been marred for 7 year (together 9) now and started off buying her expensive stuff and it just of more and more expensive every year.

About 3 years ago I just gave up and told her that it bullshit spending heaps of money trying to outdo myself and she get what ever she want anyway and now buy her practical stuff (like a watch or a necklace (nothing over $100) - but thats just us.

Gold or silver. Something personal is always nice.
Nice perfume also never goes astray.

I would prefer to get my boyfriend something nice like a watch but he would be extremely disappointed if I got him sentimental stuff. I've had three years to suss out his reactions to presents and in that time I've figured out that I can never go wrong if I get him a few
xbox/playstation/wii games. It's crap for me though, cos I spend the whole summer until March when we go back to uni, watching him play stupid games :(

Personally, I prefer the present which shows that my boyfriend has gone to some sort of effort to organise, rather than expensive stuff that everyone gets. i.e last Christmas he surprised me and upgraded our footy memberships and we went on a weekend away
