Man I feel sorry for this guy, now we know how Richo felt.
He gets no quality ball coming his way but still does all the chasing that he is (or should be) known for.
I actually applaud him for his determination, if I was out there not getting the ball in good one on one ops or on good leads I would give up, but he just keeps putting on forward line pressure. If it wasn't for Travis's bright start and Taz's pressure in the forward line our forward line as it is now would be non existant.
Sure Carra and Didak are ok but small forwards usually need the whole forward line for them to have good games. They are the icing on the cake the small forwards but without us giving Taz a chance, there is no cake. Icing is no good without cake.

BTW I think cake is overrated.

The only management classes Chris Tarrant is attending are hair management classes.. In saying that there is always a guernsey for him at West Coast :D

Tarrant isn't getting any respect down there. He clearly beats his opponent 2/3 times in a contest - why not go long to him one out??? Only 2 men have delivered the ball inside 50 well this year. Rhyce Shaw and Travis Cloke.

No Doubt Tarrant is an over-rated footballer. No doubt he needs to improve his kicking, but 2 goals a game is something you can come away with and say "i'd take it" when you see what he is getting.

You still can't let him off the hook. Some days he has determination and leads well and has the second and third efforts we love to see, but on the other hand, he can be pathetic. Shyte Mood and can't be bothered chasing and probably thinks he has better things to do, like waste his $500K at Chadstone. He is playing out there for money, and not loyalty each week. Inconsistent moods are affecting his game, needs to control that, like Fevola and especially Richo and will be worth his money and will be the man we know he can be.

ok, so lets get this right. Tarrant is over rated. Andrew Williams, Ben Kinnear are under rated. What planet do you originate from again??

cant be bothered chasing? tarrant can be criticised for a few things, but chasing aint one of them.

You can't be over-rated if you are a superstar of the game, and Tarrant is a superstar of the game.

I've been on the Taz bandwagon from when he was a 17-year-old, however, I'm struggling to see how he is classed as a "superstar" of the game? His goals per game average is appalling for someone who plays full forward, he averages 6.15 marks per game (which is ok), and has taken about half a dozen mark of the year contenders over his time. Russell Robertson averages 4.65 marks per game, but has taken just as many MOTY contenders, probably more. Is he a superstar?
I think people feel he is a superstar because of 2003:
Year Games Kicks Marks H.Balls Disp Goals Pts H.O. Tack
2003 25 301 219 74 375 54 44 5 38

One season does not make a superstar. Yes, in 2003 he was one of the best and most influential players of the year, turning games with his marking, and although its not listed here, I think he had about 50+ goal assists to go with his 54. But even so, at the "peak" of his career so far, he kicked 54.44, that's a terrible conversion for a FF. 55% is very average, especially for a "superstar".
Unfortunately too many people, esp. Collingwood people, live in the past, and as of right now, Taz has no claim to being a superstar, only a potential match winner who performs nowhere near as often as he does.
Sure, the delivery is abysmal, and I agree, and he has changed his approach a bit by improving his defensive skills immensely, but he has not really won matches on his own in a fair while, and what a superstar will do is lift when needed, not just play well when the side is playing well.
I'm not calling for his head here, just wanting people to stop labelling a superstar, because if you do that, it's easier for others to call him overrated.
thank you for your time! :)

Nice post.

Having said that, Taz is my fave Collingwood player...he has an aura when he goes near the ball, his chasing and tackling is ALWAYS first rate (note to the people who think he has attitude probs, I dunno who you think you are seeing not chasing, maybe someone else). Its pretty simple, when delivery into the forward line improves and he gets a bit of support, Taz will improve. He's had good days and bad days. On sunday we were smashed, pulverized in the middle, mainly by Dal Santo, and to a lesser extent, Ball (second half). If you lose the middle, how can you expect your forwards to win? You can count the number of forwards on 2 fingers who can make it happen when the clearances arent going your way.

Rubbish! Cake is UNDER-rated.

I agree with your post. He does a lot of excellent defensive work in the forward 50. His tackles and pressure is 1st rate. We really need to chase some high quality (quick and skillful) midfielders.

Richo deserved all he's copped. Tarrant doesn't. I personally think he's playing OK!

If Rhyce Shaw, Paul Licuria and Shane O'Bree could kick, Tarrant would be flying!!

Alternatively if Lockyer Didak Lonie Williams Holland and Woewedin (who all CAN kick) could get the ball, Tarrant would be flying!!!!

(not to mention Buckley and Davis)

The good thing about tarrant is he tries alot...an wen his on fire watch out!!
but 2 say his a superstar is going abit over board dont u reckon?? its not like he kicks 5-6 goals a game an shuts every defender down, an not 2 mention there are times wen he can be very ordinary aswell.I'd still trade him for fevola anytime!! sorry 2 say... .to me it jus seems like his very unhappy an i have heard rumours he wants out at the end of the year.....

Tarrant is a great player and I wouldn't call him a superstar by today's definition of a star.
In 2003 he was certianly one.
The term superstar/star is a very loose one.
He is a superstar but he isn't an elite forward yet as he hasn't put together enough great seasons.
For me a superstar is someone who is capable of reaching great heights and has done it a fair bit although they may be inconsistant.
