as is mentioned on another thread, clarke looks likely to go to carlton and cam mooney to saints.

im sure this news will make a lot of people quite happy.

not sure what we get in return. are draft picks the better option or players?

If carlton are the only team interested in Clarke then that is the only way we should touch Matthew Allan. Maybe our new tall marking forward will be Stephen King and Allan will be the main ruckman.

Ok that's it! Once and for all, why do the normally non-cannibalistic cats go all feral at mention of D.Clarke?

Because he makes David Bourke look talented.
Take a look at his game against Essendon this year and tell me he wasn't one of Essendon's best players.

Because we'll never improve as a team as long as players like Clarke manage to get a regular senior game for us.

I can't really see the point of Mooney going now. His trade value is so very low and we don't seem to have anyone better lined up for his spot. When he is fully fit he is our starting CHF. He is also our backup ruckman which is important to team balance. If we did manage to get a better CHF then by all means ship him off in a package deal but what's the point of trading him for a 4th rd pick? The odds are Mooney will play much more footy than a late pick ever will no matter how frustrating Gumby can be. He still has talant.

As for Clarke. Well what can I say. The ultimate Father/Son player ;) . I love to get somebody like Beaumont for him but hay we cant be greedy :)

I don't want Cam going now either. Especially now where it looks like we are going to get nought out of trade week, why trade your only real CHF? I know he has yet to put it together but he currently is our best option, no matter how bad that sounds, we haven't got anyone else. He did show glimpses last year when fully fit what he can do. By all reports he was played this year with a severely damaged ankle (stupid club!), which would explain his ordinary form.

I can't see the point in trading Gumby and getting Haynes to play the same spot.I think Gumby would be better value.

We might actually get some consistency happening, though.

People tend to forget the other side of the story - Mooney's feelings. Regardless of what anybody tells you, a player has a huge say in where they end up and whether they stay at the club or not, obviously. If Mooney is unhappy, then there is simply no point in keeping him on our list, regardless of his potential. A player who is unhappy, is more than likely to perform way below his capabilities.

For what it's worth, I think Mooney, like Peter Street, has had his chance at elite level. There comes a point where you have to abolish players who fail to show some reasonably consistent, prominent form.

If we kept Mooney, you could almost guarantee that this same thread would appear again in 12 months.

And it's sad, because Mooney has an enormous amount of potential, he's everything we want a forward to be, minus consistency. He's strong, capable of taking a big grab and most importantly, he intimidates the opposition and protects his teammates. Just, this form is a mere glimmer - once, twice or three times a season we see such form, and that's enough to reward him with a new contract. Kinda sad.

But whom are we gonna get for him though? Whatabout Prendergast from Carlton or Livingstone?

A third-round draft pick, according to The Age.

As I said on another thread the rumour is Clarke for pick 35. If we could ontrade that pick for haynes then we have done exceptionally well.

Basically trading Clarke for Haynes. This is a trade where we clearly look like the winners for a change.
