Just tuning into Fox and there we are playing the Kangas, in 2003 in Camberra

We are wearing the aweful Blue/Blue clash jumper that make a clash worse rather than better . Never , should those things be worn by our side again, a disgrace that Geelong is linked to that mess of a jumper.

So what has happened to the idea of a clash jumper anyway? Gone the way of the Dodo or what?

I'm pretty sure they are still used when needed, are you referring to the faded blue hoops?

This year when we played the kanga's at home they wore that awful white clash jumper, which made it difficult identifying which side the player was on from behind, they should have used their all blue (light) jumper on that occassion.

I'm pretty sure that it will still be pulled out of the closet for our away games against any teams our jumper clashes with.

God forbid North would've worn their traditional jumper. Light blue and white stripes against dark blue and white hoops is no clash whatsoever. I've probably seen the 2 teams with those outfits 20-25 times in my experience in all weather conditions and have had zero problems. In my opinion Geelong's jumper does not clash with anyone. Who else wears hoops? Adelaide. Who else is navy blue and white? Carlton. If anyone can't tell the difference between Geelong's traditional jumper and every other side you've got problems.

Thats the one,C_T_C. Well fo all those that think it looks good, good luck to you. To me its crap. Its not Geelong.I beleive it was modeled on some soccer mob OS.

I dont see why we have to change our jumper at all for anyone .We were around when other clubs wernt even thought off , so stuff them, but as some have said 'Marketing" does come into it

To me, our jumper is one of the recognised pieces of sportsware in Aus.
Why change? We are the Hoops,We fight with all our might because we the mighty Blue and White. We are Geelong.
Photos or TV Colour or Black and White, you see our jumper and you know , its us! Any change to more blue as this one and the previous all blue Carlton look a like thing only make a clash happen not avoid one.

I can see a day when alt. tops may be compelled, what happens to the likes of Ess then stuffed if I know, reverse it?Id believe that they may regulate to have a certain percentage 'light coloured" in a clash top. We could do this very easily by either dropping a hoop or making them thinner, but Id wait till Ess and the Pies come to the party. If compelled to have a very different clash top I think they must do more than just show a new design on TV or their website. Maybe before any new top is brought in to the AFL, it should trialled in the VFL to see what its like in play.

The way I see it is if someone from another country came they probably wouldnt think our navy and white hoops look that great.

And its only an away/clash jumper mainly used to make more money. How much would we make with kids running around with Varcoe and both Ablett numbers on their backs

Also footy has to be treated as a business now. The Demons still refuse to and are only hanging on by the handouts given from the AFL

Frankly , I dont give a tinkers cuss what somebody from another country thinks of our top, like it or lump it. Its destinctive, its us.If other dont like it , suck eggs and frankly I dont see a shortage kids with the hoops on at the footy.

As far as being a business , yes I understand money and marketing plays a huge part of footy but just because sombody else does it in some other code like soccer , its doesnt mean have to. Ess have had minimal change to their strip in over 100 years, I admire that its theirs and they protect it. Once you start corrupting our heritage where does it stop, thats why we have clauses in our by-laws that state we must wear hoops. If the poorer clubs have to sell their soul, their strip and their home games to survive then thats is their perogitive , just dont force it on those who dont want it.

There's only one time I can remember us clashing with another team. Does anyone else here have "Ablett: One Special Season"? If so, go straight to the first game of the year at Lobotomy Park where Ablett kicked seven and Daicos kicked eight. I found it really tough - especially when the ball was up for grabs with the sun glare - to discern between the black and the navy blue.

The Cats also wore that jumper (pictured above, Enright) against us in round 3, 2003 at the MCG.

I don't think that clubs should be wearing the new, clash design jumpers. Afterall, we have survied for 100 years - why change now? The new, interstate clubs are ok to wear it in my opinion - they are new, and lack tradition - (save for prehaps Port) prehaps this could become part of their tradition.

By the other side of the coin, whatever happened to your clash stripe from 1998? That one looked good, I think.

I know as an Essendon supporter I'm probably biased but really if jumper a clashes are such a big problem then how did people differentiate two teams in the '70's and '80's when watching them on TV. Simply as its been mentioned here alternative jumpers are simple money grabbing exercises.

One thing I will say is I think the material that is used in todays jumper is part of the clash problem. Being an ultra high gloss finish is harder to look at and makes it harder to pickup than it was in the past.

Good point, TurboCat. But I still think it isn't all that hard to see. I can' remember the last time North donned their traditional Blue and White stripes against us.
