I was just looking through the back log of Dockers drafting decisions and got reminded of the 2006 draft. Pre-draft Collard had so much hype around him, saying he was a genuine top 10 pick and everything after that would be considered a steal. We got him at 31 and after kicking 19 goals in 8 games at WAFL and making his AFL debut, he never fired a shot. He got delisted at the end of the year.
Was this due to disciplinary issues? I am just bemused as to why he never made it.
 
It's looking very likely that Brock O'Brien will never play another game of AFL football. So, from the 2006 draft, we got 4 games of football out of the players we took.

It seems Collard fell for a reason, and was probably delisted for the same reason - didn't have the right attitude.
 
in fairness 2006 was an incredibly weak draft, alot of teams when shithouse in it. Look at who Collingwood drafted with the pick we gave them for Tarrant.

Funny thing about Reid is all the Pies supporters were hyping him up beyond belief. Some photo was taken at training with his shirt off and they all used it like evidence he was going to be a gun.

How do Freo supporters still see the Tarrant trade? Shouldn't have done it or? I'm split.
 
If freo continue to be competitive this season and show good promise next year will Tarrant sign one more year? ^ quality draft picks we got there too haha.

The other element to that trade that people are forgetting is Mr "Steak Knives" Medhurst. Up until last year , I thought that the trade was one of the worst that we have done.

Ever since. Taz has moved down back and been the best Full Back that we have EVER had. I love the trade now and I bet the Pies wish that they had Taz back every day! Which makes me feel AWESOME!!! LOL:D:thumbsu:

I'm pretty happy with it. It's an interest hypothetical as to who we would have used 8 on though. They really got Medhurst for free but I think he needed a change, Farmer and now Ballantyne have sort of done his job since then anyway.

Also I'm probably wrong but didn't Medhurst have a woeful record for Freo away from Subiaco?

Yeah it is why I am split on it. If medhurst was back to his AA form maybe I wouldn't be so split, but the fact Reid turned out to be a dud at least brings the trade back to a level playing field. ;)

It's funny how Tarrant seems to not care about kicking for goal when he is a backman. He seems to slot them like it's easy now, whereas he appeared to be quivering if he took a mark in the 50 as a forward.
 
We could of done with some of the key position players taken after 31 - Jesse White (pick 79)
Kurt Tippett (pick 32)

Robbie Gray, Jarrod Harbrow, Clinton Jones, Simon Hogan and Michael Jamieson would have been handy as well

He went to Richmond.I think on the rookie list but was given the bums rush from there even.That shows you how bad you are going.
 
No Collard didn't crack a senior game for Richmond, only the one for us where looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

Interesting to see how he goes for Peel now but his chances have slipped by probably.

Tippet at full forward would have been handy about now....

Otherwise yeh weak draft and with Medhurst no longer setting the world on fire and us having a good replacement in Frodo I am happier with the Tarrant trade now. Medhurst was always a serial offender at putting in poor performances away from Subiaco - till he went to Collingwood.
 
I think i saw somewhere something said about Depression or the like. Been out of football until Marty Atkins recently talked him into playing for Peel i believe.

With regards to where he was drafted, both Collard and Leroy Jetta were playing for Souths at the time, with Jetta being talked up big time, yet with the Souths games i saw, Collard was constantly out performing Jetta, often kicking a bag of goals.

Such is the nature of drafting.
