Guys,
Lets get as many opinions as we can, who do you think is the better defender, Jimmy Clement or Matt Scarlett.

I honestly believe that Clement is more of an all round defender, good in the air and on the ground, and the one main attribute that makes him a better defender that Scarlett is his disposal.

Your thoughts guys?

Piggy said it, Clement is the premier defender in the competition. I love the way he plays the game, he makes beating bigger men look easy and he has that touch of class. As a forward you always have your work cut out, that's for sure.

Has James made a notable clanger in the last couple of years? His disposal is first class.

As for Scarlett, people overate him. Good defender, Yes. The best, No.

Yeah I both rate them highly as great defenders, probs a bit bias being on a collingwood forum but hey, but personally for me, trying not to be bias I'd prefer to have clement. Like the commentators say "THE GENERAL OF DEFENCE". But dont get me wrong any geelong supporters that come in I think Scarlett is a very very good defender, though tarrant still gets the better of him.

Well, I believe the public rate Clement more than me. Wait, the general public rating a Collingwood player. Anyway, that is because I believe I have a shut lid all the time over Jimmy, and he continues to simply, just get better and better. He kicked 5 goals in consecutive matches at the Dockers, and signs of this fringe player, may have become a forward. He is certainly, no doubt, the best medium sized defender in the last 5 years.

.
When he kicked it to himself on a kick in and dropped it and it went through for a point! It was either last year or the year before i believe, was pretty funny.

Rnd 1 last year Grims...almost won tool of the year, beaten by Pasquali (or whateva his name is)...could've been 2 tools in a row for the Pies after THAT commercial :p

Thought I would chuck up this, just something for you to look at...

That post makes approximately zero sense. Congrats.

I think a straight comparison is difficult because they're different types of players. Clement, I reckon, is a flanker, who can play small or tall. This means that, yes, he can play KP (and play it well), but that's not his best position, whereas Scarlett is a genuine KP defender.

If you wanted someone to play week in week out on the monster key forwards, I'd choose Scarlett. If you wanted a versatile flanker/utility, I'd choose Clement.

PS: I reckon this is the second time in the last three Collingwood-Carlton matches that Pagan has let Clement play as loose man in defence for a key portion of the match. Not surprisingly it's the second time Clement has absolutely cut them to ribbons. With his athleticism, brain, and disposal, you can't let Clement 'quarterback' like that.
