How many clearances did we win against the saints tonight?

Horrible horrible display, StKilda were just far far to good for us around stoppages. Shirley must come back into the side next week, he is a great in and under player who can win the ball in a pack.

So my question is, who do you have in the square to win center clearances.
For mine: Maric, Thompson, Vince, Dangerfield. Its the one area of the game we got smashed in this week and something Collingwood also smashed us in last week.

Getting a second ruckman is easy go to the supercoach site and click on the red T :D

We were beaten comprehensively in the centre square and around the ground. It was painful to watch at times.

King and Gardiner were excellent and Dal Santo and Montagna seemed to have it on a string.

Porplyzia spent some more time there are the game wore on and seems to get in the right spots but the trouble is that without Burton we desperately need him up forward.

I think we got our hands to it first quite often, but then we were wrapped a straight away. Our skills by hand tonight were abhorent. We lacked the quick hands to get any clean ball. Bring brack the Crow throw I say, come back Andrew Jarman and Bone McDermott!

We have only one player who has anything approaching good hands. Fortunately he is an absolute gun.

we led the clearances at 3/4 time, this was not a major issue tonight.

our ball movement wilted under physical pressure, and an uncertain game plan. too much handball, particularly to position rather than a player ending with no one waiting.

That really surprises me, they seemed to smash us out of the centre square. Every time I was looking for a quick clearance and entry to the forward 50 to give our forwards a decent opportunity they were just having their way. They seemd to have a lot of set plays from boundary throw ins etc, players streaming past were receieving the ball far to often.

Are we placing to much emphasis on ruckman work around the ground, I do agree its important but hell, Maric needs help in the ruck he can't do it the entire game, if Griffen has another great rucking game at league level this weekend I suggest we bring him back to help us around the clerance work.

Danger is now our best contested ball winner. He dives into a dead pack, forces his way out and gets his hans free.

I have Danger love.

I can't believe how incredibly strong he is through the hips. A few times last night it took 2-3 saints to take him to ground and he still manages to get an effective handball out. If he has the tank we should be sticking him in the middle as much as possible. He is a clearance machine.

Was it Milne that threw himself on Danger as he was running outta the back 50 only to shurg him off and run a full tilt leaving an embarrased Milne in the dust. Put a massive smile on my face. He almost did it too easy :)

That's because they did smash us.

The clearance stats don't differentiate between a scrambled, high bomb forward and a clean series of handballs that sets up a probing forward fifty entry. It is purely a quantitative measure, not qualitative.

Guys like Dal Santo, Ball and Montagna were so sharp with their hands in close that they made it count every time they got their hands on the ball first. Very impressive.

Their movement of the ball when they won centre clearances was far superiour to ours.
There seems to be something amiss with our setup at centre bounces, but I can't work out what is different. Anybody?
