Hey guys just wondering what are your views on this guy. Personally i dont think he will make it as a footballer and i dont think he will be on the list in 2009.

you have started a thread & pointed out your thoughts i respect that.

after 2 years on the list what would we expect from a 20 year old...?

which 20 year old players are you compareing hughes to ....?

which kpf of the same draft or the last 3 drafts apart from buddy
has acheived more than hughes thus far..........?

rnd1 & rnd2 e has shown good progression apart from kicking yips....?

i mean no disrespect, just want to know tiger fans opinions on him.

Seriously who knows. Can play a good game here or there. However goes missing alot. I dont remember the other players we could of had in the same draft. Maybe cause I dont want to think we might of got a better player. Time will tell. I think he should of shown alot more then he has though.

hes following the footsteps of oakley nicholls,
sorry to say but they are both duds and dont desevre to be at tigerland.
Hughes, i'd say one more year and then he will be gone, or perhaps if we are lucky good trade bait

Truth is spoken ...

There was a moment in the game when he lead and the ball landed in front of him and ricocheted of his shins ... and what followed was surely part of the Melbourne international comedy festival ...

I reckon Richard Lounder would have been better below his knees .... could not stop running , thus completely removed himself from even the remotest possibilty of a follow up or second effort .... i reckon the Queen Mary has a smaller turning circle .

Either he was completely stuffed and deliberately did it to avoid re-entering the contest because he physically couldn`t ... or he simply does not belong at AFL level .... i suspect it is both

i think schultz is better value to the team and thats as nice as i can be in regards to cleve hughes.

He isn't as bad as some people are making out he has shown some signs and he is also 20 and is a Key position wait till the end of 2009 to get rid of him if he hasn't shown anything

Cannot believe how negative some of you are on Cleve after 2 pretty darn good performances from him if he was kicking straight and believe me he is a brillaint kick with confidence he'd have 3 in both games that is a great contribution. He sits on bench quite a bit also he is improving all the time and we need to show belief in him for success.

I just struggle to get my head around the fact that ... last year he was not deemed good enough to play in our VFL side , and yet over the course of one pre-season he is all of a sudden in our best 22 .....

Am i missing something here ?

Wreaks of ... "clutching at straws" if you ask me

I actually thought he presented up the ground pretty well against North. Filled in that gap between half back and forward when we had no options. Took a strong one hander too :thumbsu:.
Thing is if he kicked 3 straight he wouldn't be as much of a dud as some of you say he is.

Also played for the RFC seniors last year. Just depends whether you're a glass half full/half empty sort of person.

Of course it could be that he's matured, developed, "made the right changes" etc, over summer. Obviously I'm a half full kinda guy.

I think his only problem is his speed and kicking i thnk he had 1.2 against th roos so could have been 3 goals which for a young forward is kinda good imo i think him and riewoldt wil be a good combo im years to come

FFS get off the kids back, he has played the first 2 rounds and despite limited ball being directed towards him in our 'kick it to Richo stuff everyone else' gameplan has managed to average 8.5 disposals 5.5 marks and had 5 scoring shots on goal. Apart from the conversion rate in front of goal he hasn't been that bad, so I'd be interested in finding out just what those who are potting him expected from a 21 year old developing KPP with 12 games to his name? If you were expecting much more than what he is doing then you're dead set fooling yourself.

I'm wondering why were chastising a developing KPP who is averaging 2 shots on goal per game for his limited 12 game career, which has also included a couple of 3 goal games. Surely there is something there we can work on or is having a kid who can get regular shots on goal something we don't want moving forward.

Realistic Tiger has made some real valid points here.

I don't think its individuals slowing us down. I think its the team. Its the physical side of it (tackling) and skills. Most of the other things we are up to scratch up on. Look at Geelong and Port. They are so much physically stronger than Richmond. Look how confident they are when they play. Want to know the reason? They hit targets, they are confident they'll hunt down the opposition in numbers.

Jack and Cleve to lead the forward line in 3-4 years i think weshould get the 2 young key forwards or the future in and try get them a few goals.
have the play about 50% each and dont drop them after 1-2-3 games let them devalop.
IMO Jack and Cleve could kick about 4-5 goals between them towardsthe end of the year if T.W gives them game time

I don't think he's a dud, but he better get his arse into gear soon..the "he's a kid, KPP's take time" excuse only lasts for so long and before you know it we have a 23 or 24 yr old dud with absolutely no trade value who stinks up the list:o*

that's why I wanna see Cleve get extended game time this year so we can really gauge him and his development....then again I'm not the one making the list management decisions:cool:

*not direct at Cleve, just a general rant..../rant:o

The exact reason why I hope he retains his spot again for Sunday, everytime he gets a shot he has 1-2 ok games followed by a poor one and is booted, this year he has had 2 ok games, as I said above 8.5 possies, 5.5 marks and 5 shots at goal in them despite being the 6th choice up forward.

Personally I would give him until the first week of May - Round 7(first week off) and if by then he has done nothing major swap him for Riewoldt and then give Jack until the mid season break which is another 7 weeks, then in the last 8 weeks play whoever is in form between the 2 for 4 weeks and then give the other the remaining 4 weeks, that way you get 11 games into 2 young KPP all the while not shattering their confidence by rotating them every fortnight because they have a quiet game, after all you can't expect much when they are our 5th-6th choice forwards.

Hey guy's let me tell you something. Cleve Hughes is a dud.
He played well against Carlton the week before last. Last week he was hopeless against North Melbourne. So what does that say.
He can only play one good game for us.
I say put him into VFL and keep him there until he plays for the jumper.
