Nup,because we got James Kelly with the draft pick we got.
Not at all.
When we looked at Clint's performances while he was playing at Geelong, we weren't able to justify the amount of money we were paying him and decided it was best that Clint should be traded. Melbourne have done well from it and like JUBJUB said, Geelong got James Kelly with the draft pick we received from the Bizzel trade so it's a win/win for both clubs.

Clint Bizzell, one of the best CHB's going around. But I reckon it's been a win-win for both clubs. Geelong get a good young midfielder and Melbourne get a 26 year old key defender that they desperatley needed.

The trade was a win-win; Geelong getting Kelly, Playfair and Grgic. (Although Grgic was a waste of time) Melbourne getting; Bizzell and Miller.
Yeah Grgic was a hack. Never really thought he was any good.
Biz has been great. Some games he's been a bit tentative in his kicking, but he has had a lot of pressure on him. He held it together most games, and showed he looks the part down back.
Hopefully we can pick up a James Clement style over the break. It seems the big full back types have gone out of style. Most have been rendered ineffective by the new style of play of some teams. Having said that, I wouldn't want to be going into a game against Brisbane without a big fella. Lamby did the job last time (against Brisbane) so I think we are OK in the big man department.
Again, I hope we can pick up a couple of decent, ready made defenders over the break. Ideally players wich experience. Ellis was a good pickup, but really didn't show all that much this year (prior to injury).

I wish people would get this trade right. We swapped Bizzell for picks 17 (Kelly) and 41 (Playfair).
Grgic was traded for pick 56.
The two trades have no implication with each other.
The swaps have been argued many times by Geelong and Melbourne supporters, and all are happy. That being said, I wouldn't trade Kelly for 3 Bizzells tomorrow

Aren't Ellis & Nicholson going to miss a lot of 2003 because of knee reco's ?
I thought they out were as well.
Melbourne will struggle next season unless they recruit another tall defender to cover the loss of both Ellis and Nicholson. Actually, next season is Melbourne's 'off' season so it probably doesn't matter anyway!!

Brent Grgic hasn't had many opportunities at this stage and if he doesn't kick on next season and force his way into the senior side, I would be surprised if we keep him on our list.

I think people are a little harsh on Grigic. Sure, he hasn't had the best year, but it does take a while to fit in. Some players fit in better than others; Grgic obviously will need his time. He did seem to get better in the latter games of the VFL which is good signs for 2003 season for him!
But he must fire next year, or I'm sorry but GOODBYE!!

I don't entirely agree, the clubs would have thrown around players who would be up for trade, and then draft picks were added to even it out. Regardless of how it's written on paper the deals were connected, we needed to offload Grgic to make room for Bizzell. (Much like the Ellis, Simmonds, Bandy deal was also connected to the Vardy draft pick, and then on trading for the Shell, Medhurst deal. These deals were all connected, although on paper they were seperate.)

He actually played on players taller than him and did quite well SeinDude. That being said, I wouldn't want to rely on him doing it every week. We will have Lamb down there, along with Miller, Broady, Molan and Biz with Ellis and Nicho to return. It will be our weakness for a while, but we should survive.
And who cares about the whole trade thing? How many times have we argued this?? It was a win-win, who cares about the rest?

lol, I agree with that! I can recall countless times where we have argued over all this before. Bizzell was great for us, so was Kelly for you guys. Yet even though we know that, we tend to argue over it all anyway.
Oh well, I think it's in our nature to argue over such things.
