You guys really need to adopt the Hawthorn strategy, if a player doesn't kick at 80 per cent of higher efficiency, you do NOT draft them.

Not a case of putting a percentage cut-off on it, some of the TAC stats are not a true indicator, but essentially you are right.

At 50 or 60 odd Benji was probably was a punt that was worth a shot though.

That's why Hawthorn passed on Jordan Lewis in the draft. ;)

Thanks for making it sound so simple.

Benjamin was well worth the punt when Connors has the talent, but had question marks over his attitude.

Josh Hill was close to getting the axe last year according to Eade, but has turned it around.

Maybe we should have traded the Benjamin pick for Hadley and then get questioned over not drafting Dalziell. ;)

Benji with his string of soft-tissue injuries, hasn't really had a lot of time and a run of games to settle and develop. He is young and could be a late developer and he does have time on his side in that respect. As our list deepens it is going to make it more difficult to keep a spot on the list.

Let's hope it actually does deepen this draft and we do have some early picks.

Re-drafting Benji in the rookie draft
Is this a possibility?
Would seem reasonable given we have put some time into him already.
Not sure what the rules are with rookie listing a senior listed player...........is it if they haven't played a senior game?
with a late pick in the national draft wouldn't hurt if he's the best available player.
What would be the point of delisting him only to select him again?

I think you get to see who potentially falls through to your pick (somebody you rate higher) and then make a call based on who you could theoretically replace him with

Yep, fair call. Can see the logic in it now.:thumbsu:

His field kicking has improved somewhat this year, but having said that it is probably still not where you want it when competing against the Geelong's and Hawthorn's. The first time I saw him play post-draft was down at Skilled in a VFL practice game against Geelong. He was floating around HF, took a Royce Hart like mark using his pace and leap coming in from the side of the contest. Although he sprayed a couple of set shots, he is good overhead and actually looked quite menacing as a HF. Seems to have been played a lot across HB for the ants when he has been fit and I wonder if this was to develop his defensive game. This is probably a little left-field but I actually see him best suited as a third tall forward at AFL level. IF he can work on his intensity, tackling and defensive pressure I can see him still making it. I'm not sure his field kicking is up to scratch playing across HB or on a wing at AFL level.

I agree with your comments he has been tried back & wing & can't seem to get enough possessions, therefore he either lacks a footy brain or doesn't have the ticker to get involved.

If he was played as a lead up player from deep forward, it sort of becomes necessary for him to give an option & become more involved.

There would be nothing worse than letting him go & see him come on at another club.

He has the physical attributes to be a gun player, but my feeling is he is on the soft side at present, but in a year or 2 he may become harder.

Verdict: Keep 1 more year & play as a leading full-forward/forward pocket.

Is going into have a scope on his shoulder tomorrow, and his hamstring was torn pretty badly a couple of weeks ago...
