The Hawks website says the same thing. Does anyone really know for sure? Haha.
That's why I said "according to the AFL" because no one seems to be clear.

If you do the math though he seems like a restricted FA;

Debuted in 2005, which made last season his eighth in the AFL, which to me puts him as restricted. (Although there are other ways to be unrestriced than 10 years of service)

Doesn't matter much anyway, with the reported cut in contract that the Hawks offered him they wouldn't match even a decent offer from the Pies and we'd get him no matter what he's classified as.

No Young is outside the highest paid player things i think its like 25% or something idk which made him unrestriced like Jordan Russell etc.

im not sure on the complete wording of that but it something along those lines.

Seriously there are some peanuts on this board

Not every footballer is tough players have roles his is outside

Anyone see how much we struggled hitting a target coming out from defence this year or did this all come unnoticed?

Perfect pick up for Collingwood almost on par with Lynch we are crying out for a running HBF can not have Ben Johnson playing until his 40

Restricted versus unrestricted
An unrestricted free agent can automatically move to the club of his choice while an offer to a restricted free agent can be matched by his club, which has right of first refusal over his services. A restricted free agent is one that is in the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club while an unrestricted free agent is in the bottom 75 per cent or has spent at least 10 years at his club.

I beleive he is unrestricted. 26, came to Hawks at 18, so has the requisite 8 years, would not be in the top 25 percent of money earners there, so is an UNRESTRICTED free agent.

If Dawes goes (giving us the money for Lynch) and Wellers goes (giving us the money for Young) I would do this in a heartbeat. We would then load up on the draft but have 2 similar players to what we are losing anyway, great management,

One thing it means though is we will need to get trades done before the 19th if we are relying on money in the cap being freed up to get Young.

Exciting times!

Doesn't matter if Young is soft, so is Dids. Doesn't matter if he berates team mates, so does Heater.

He has pace

He breaks lines

He has footskills

Slot him in at HBF

Not everyone can be a tough nut in a side - you need to be reasonably lean and looking for running opportunities to be a line breaker, let him ghost around outside to link up.

Don't know why but reminds me of Ryan Lonie.

Having said that, if he is free he would be a decent acquisition.

Talk of a 4 yr deal sounds steep to me though. I don't want to be overpaying for him. We have a salary cap to manage. If we were to pay Young a heap, we would have just offered it to Wellingham so I don't think the Pies would be offering massive $$$$$ to get him.

I think the 4 year contract if correct would be to keep the dollars down whilst providing long term security, which is what he was missing with the Hawks.

So even if you don't take a FA in the FA period, you can still take them later as a FA rather than through a trade?

Didn't you hear that Wellingham wants to go home. Has nothing to do with money. Oh and he also thinks they can win a premiership in the next couple of years with their young list

8 years is enough for unrestricted if you dont earn top 25 percent at your club. he is unrestricted.

Ryan Lonie was the perfect example. Played 100 plus games without laying a tackle.

Dids has probably had less than 10 over his career!

According to the AFl website Clint Young is Unrestricted

hardly misses a goal when hes on his left from 50.
would like, but hes soft.

He misses a lot from 50. Kicked 13.16 for the year, it just looks great when he does it so is more noticable
He isn't what i would call tough but he has improved it this year. He did have a bad moment though in the GF

Mixed emotions though I must say. He's soft but he's got good skills and a good runner off halfback. Until the last few minutes of the GF I'd have been happy.

One of the big criticisms we have had on the Hawks board is that all he has is the 60 metre kick but can't hit someone up short on a lead. Again something he has improved this year but he still misses too many of his short passes

But there was this one glorious smother;

You should ring up trade week radio when they're on air.

I could I guess.

Unless he Signs before then;)

UPDATE: 9/10/12 – HAWTHORN midfielder Clinton Young toured the Westpac Centre facilities last night with COLLINGWOOD seeking a trade for the experienced on-baller.
Young is also being sounded out by the Brisbane Lions. He is not the only Hawk that is set to leave the nest from the fallout of acquiring Brian Lake yesterday.

Sound Like the Lions are also Intrested
