does anybody agree with this...

I think that collingwood only drafted jason and cameron cloke to collingwood knowing that travis would be the pick of the bunch.

by drafting the older 2 it meant travis would follow his brothers to the pies, same as if they went to richmond he would have followed.

thoughts????

I think you are 13 which is about how old Travis was when Jason was drafted. Not many clubs base recruiting decisions on a 13 year old’s form let alone taking two players to pick up a 13 year old.

More likely Jason was only drafted to knock out Tyson Edwards and put Collingwood into a grand final.

not discounting jason's talent but i think you would agree that travis is the pick of the 3 and collingwood did what they had to do to be able to get him.

why the smartarse comments??

i didnt come on here to sh1t stir

simply wanted collingwood supporters opinions.

this being because one of the people i work with is a collingwood fan.

Non smartarse answer:

Of course not. It would be a silly suggestion even if they were closer in age but Travis was 13 years old when Jason was drafted.

Who knows... Travis might have been very good for a 13 year old

In all seriousness we were lucky Jason and Cameron got drafted to the Pies. If it happened that Richmond drafted Jason and Cameron, Travis wouldn't be a Collingwood player and I would be peeved off.

Hard to know really. Who would we have taken instead of the other 2? Richmond took Coughlin when we took Jason. Not sure if anyone any good was available when we took Cameron. If Travis becomes a good CHF I will be happy to have invested the 3 picks to get him and any club would give the same 3 picks plus some to get a quality CFH. No club would draft a player to maybe get his brother who might one day be good though. Don’t overlook how good Jason was in 2002. He was a material part of getting us into a grand final. I'm also still not convinced we shouldn't have Cameron on the list.

I can only assume the reason we punted Cam Cloke was because he's had 3 shoulder ops and his positions are Ruck and FF(not mobile enough for CHF IMO).

I'm sure we'll draft a ruckman who can at least pinch hit next year.

I belive they picked up cameron because they wanted travis to follow. But they did want jason. I played junior footy with cameron and seriously he was pretty bad and would never have been picked up but Travis was an absoloute gun. I also herd that David (mananger) had an agreement with the club to pick up all three or they would all go to Richmond. Just what i herd.

That's a rubbish thought.

Jason played for Collingwood and we made Grand Finals in his first two years at the club. He was brilliant in his first year and despite position issues he still played reasonable football. Jason had many issues during his career at the club, including Damir (David), MM (Coach), and himself (old fashioned).

Cam followed as did Travis.

Were you friends with him? :D

I heard a similar notion.

And to those who said that Travis Cloke was 13 when Jason was drafted blah blah blah.... What don't you think some of these clubs start watching kids from that age? Esp if he has a brother already playing at the top line?

Your kidding yourself if you don't think club scouts start watching some of these kids that early.

Jason played 73 games. That's probably above average for an AFL player, so he has been good enough and achieved enough to justify being drafted in his own right.

Cam only played 22 odd games, so a cynic could argue that he was only drafted in order to get Trav. However his career has been seriously curtailed by injury, and the effects of three major shoulder injuries cannot be underestimated.

haha u seriously think the pies were worried how travis was going when he was 13??? i highly doubt it.maybe when he was 15 they would have checked up onhim then at 16 they would have watched him at the 16s national champs

When Collingwood starting chasing Jason, a talented young footballer himself, Travis was about 11. Jason was named CHB for the U/18 AA team yet everyone doesnt think he was worth picking up?

As for Cameron, he was a ruckman, we needed a ruckman, we would have been stupid to pass on him

Of course Travis is looking like he could be a great player, yet even before he got drafted some 'experts' claimed and still do that he wasnt worth picking up either, maybe David refused to give them an autograph when they were younger :p

I know Cloke bashing is fun and you can always get plenty of support, but stupid myths like these should be put to rest, they come up atleast 3-4 times a year

Cameron was the #1 ruck for the TAC premiership side. He was not horrible by any stretch. He would of easily got drafted in about round 4/5 at the latest.

Cameron was regarded as better than Jason at that point - and JC was regarded as a very good up and coming backmen.

Richmond were into him massively and Kev Sheehan had him as a top 20 pick.

Go back and read your B&W mag!

The three of them are dud's. I wanted to trade the three of them to Brisbane for Acker.

The game passed Jason by.
Cam was too slow for key position or roaming ruck.
Travis is a scaredy cat

I for one, hope Travis proves me wrong because he is still with us.

There is not a hope in hell we drafted Jason to get Travis. That is ludicrous! The whole three showed potential young.
