I didn't realise before but having just rewatched the GF replay I noticed that Cloke didn't kick a goal, which must be especially maddening for him as he was robbed of a goal in the first minute! Anyway during the finals eveyone was saying Cloke needed to fire in order to win the GF...Turns out he didn't need to. But if he had fired in GF2 we would have won by 100+points

"They" also said that bad kicking for goal would cost us the GF - well they got the bad kicking for goal right but got the wrong boot - was p1ssing myself laughing after the third missed sitter.:D:D:D

It almost did if, ironically, he didn't kick that final goal in the drawn GF. Not saying it was all down to him either as I thought most of the team played poorly, but could you imagine the media beat up if we lost?

He should've had a goal in the opening seconds, then was the direct goal assist for opening 2 goals. He had a hand in a 3rd as well. He presented all day, pressured hard and tried hit guts out. Don't worry about Cloke's performance in the GF replay...he played his role.

He was also fine in the 1st GF. His kicking could've been better, but he still kicked 2...including the final goal of the match which put us in front and ultimately got us the draw. He should've had 4 goals for the match.

Anyways, I can't think of 1 dominant CHF performance in a GF over the last decade. Mooney never dominated a GF, nor did Franklin in 08. Barry Hall was quiet in 05 and West Coast didn't have one. I thought Cloke offered more than any of these guys did despite not kicking a goal.

Yeah, it was pretty unfair that he was robbed of a goal in the first minute. Would have been a real confidence boost for him, generally if he gets into it early it does him the world of good. Not that it matters in the overall scheme of things, since we ended up belting them anyway.

Although I really hate umpiring decisions like that in general, that is giving free kicks for things that are entirely incidental to what's going on in the game. Stuff like that and the Milburn free kick last year for giving the goal umpire a spray, they just ruin the spectacle at times. I mean, it's a grand final, emotions are running high and there is a lot at stake, giving away petty free kicks for innocuous little things like that just show a lack of feel for the game and the occasion.

True enough ed but I bet there wouldn't have been any mention of Pendles being crook as a dog or Did's carrying a shoulder injury or StKilda playing the game of their season with Goddard playing the game of his life while most of our engine room played one of their worst games for the season. Screw the press ed they just print sensationalist crap.

Anthony Rocca - 2002 Grand Final.

We had Rocca and Bucks dominate that day and still lost. Goes to show 22 men playing as a team is always better.
I've been pushing a similar line for ages, one of the important slices in our premiership pie this time has been the amount of goalkickers we have had in most matches, usually 10 and as high as 13. You can shut down a Rocca but try shutting down Cloke, Dawes, Dids, Davis - yes he has to be shut down too - Penders, Wellers, The Caff, Thomas - the list goes on and on and simply can't be shut down. With decent kicking for goal it guarantees a very competitive scoreline and if the backs do their job a win.

Add to this Krak and Tarrant - if these guys hit their straps and stay fit we can destroy a number of teams this season.

True, I just had a look at all the GFs from 2000-2010. Lloyd kicked 5 goals in 2001 (lost) and Mooney kicked 5 in 2007 (out of Geelong's 24 goals). They're the only 5 goal hauls. There are plenty of 4 goal hauls though. Someone mentioned Rocca but at the same time Lynch also kicked 4 goals in the same game. I wouldn't call any of those dominating though.

Yeah the press will jump on anything. They would have loved it if we lost, they'd still be writing about it now. In saying that they're still writing about us anyway, just not in the same way!

And I had a bit on Pendles kicking the first goal. If Cloke did the team thing and shepherded the ball through for a goal instead of marking it, I would have made a tidy profit.
