This will not solve the problem but was it a dumb idea giving Jack T and Jack G the co-captains role? To me it looks like we are ruining them - they appear too young and unfortunately out of their depth. Last night when we needed an inspirational effort it didn't come... but to be fair maybe nobody else on the list could have done any better.

However, could it be that both guys need to be given a way out. Somehow allow them to maintain their dignity but give the captaincy to one guy (N Jones or M Clark for example) and let the 'Jacks' get on with being great players.

By the way, while we are all frustrated with Jack Watts would it be another dumb idea to let him go to another club? His skills are great, and one day he might bulk up a bit and show some physical presence (just about everything is there for him to become a great player). The worry for me is that it looks like he has never had to throw a punch in anger in life or has never been on the receiving end of one. I'm not advocating violence, but only those who have copped a bit of a beating know that being thrown around on a footy field and getting a few black eyes is not so bad. I think Jack needs to be put into a boxing ring and someone needs to 'touch him up'. He might need to be patched up afterwoods, but he will then realise that a few hits on the footy field is not so bad in comparison. Apologies in advance if I have offended anyone from a PC perspective on this point.

was like throwing boys to the lions.

A hard tough ferocious nut like Nathan Jones should be your sole capt.

Neeld has to wake up, afl is a ruthless competition & only the hardest will survive. I just don't know what he's doing the way he coaches your club into the ground. It's sad to see what's happening.

Where do I sign up.

Grimes and Jones.

Or just Jones.

But I can't say that after calling "Grimey" our captain with any sort of pride yesterday.

It's just a title, nothing more.

Just because somebody isn't captain does not mean they cannot lead, there is literally zero point in having captains in football.

You want to lead? Kamikaze into a contest to try effect it, chase someone until you bring them down, etc and try to swing momentum in our favour.

Legitimate question to anyone who may know- is there a particular reason as to why Nathan Jones wasn't given the captaincy? As opposed to why Grimes and Trengove were?

I ask because, looking from the outside, I cannot for the life of me comprehend why Jones wouldn't have got it. He is, by a considerable margin, the guy whose on-field conduct and play screams 'leader'. And that's not a knock on Grimes or Trengove either; they are both very good young players who have good futures ahead of them, but Jones is the standout 'spiritual leader', for want of a better expression. I thought he was terrific in the face of pretty terrible adversity on Saturday night.

Is Jones not a good public speaker? Some other reason that isn't well publicised?

I suppose he may have been less of a standout candidate at the end of 2011 than he is now, but surely it's time to bite the bullet- for the sake of the club, but also for Trengove and Grimes.

Neeld don't roll with the chrome domes.

Extraordinary swag and a mouth full of gold
Put the chrome to your dome 'til you get lockjaw
Party like a cowboy or a rockstar
Everybody play the tough guy 'til shit pop off...

First thing I thought of when I saw that last post :D

Yeah, that's exactly right. And there certainly aren't many in our team who were taking on that kind of leadership against Essendon.

But Jack Grimes was one of them I'd reckon.

Trengove got the gig because we wanted to break the youngest skipper record.

Jones might look good now, but he was very ordinary under the last couple of years of Bailey. Not that you necessarily need to appoint your best player, but he's the only one who has got better from 2012 onwards.

If they were picking now sure, but I can see why they didn't then.

I disagree with Grimes he has really grown into the role and his footy has improved (2nd BnF last yr) and his body is now allowing him to string together consecutive games. For mine Trengove's poor form for some reason pulls in Grimes as well and questions and comparisons are unfairly raised. In hindsight Trengove should of been left to develop his footy within the leadership group and Jones/Grimes combination would of been a lot better.

MCC probably didn't like his tatts

You're dead right though IMO - should be captain with Mitch VC

I think Grimes and Trenners are good leaders, but I think they need to get some more games under their belt
