Just wondering if anyone has heard any goss in relation to the Saints Coaching job?

I know it's a bit early (and probably only rumour) and all will be revealed, however, just keen to know.

I don't think there is any goss to be had (unless you're not too fussy about the truth). Longmire remains the most likely target, but a list of potential coaches is being approached and the process will continue, hopefully for as long as it takes to get exactly the right guy with the right skills and the right level of enthusiasm.

Apparently Ayres is as good as over the line.......hahahahahahaha!!!!!

LMFAO!!!

Despite the possibility that they will have no senior coach throughout the trading period, the Saints do not have to be concerned about competition for any of the coaches in contention, given that Geelong — the only other club with a coach whose position was under threat — has opted to retain Mark Thompson for 2007.

McKenna is a knob, players at Claremont hated him and underachieve and The Eagles got rid of him. The man is bad news and I would take him as an assistant.

Howdy fellas, in the local rag over here it states Guy McKenna as, " has been invited back for a second interview " and " has undergone psycological testing ".

I imagine the list is getting shorter by the minute , good luck all the same .

McKenna earns a second interview with Saints

COLLINGWOOD assistant coach Guy McKenna has been invited back for a second interview for the vacant St Kilda coaching position.

McKenna has already been interviewed once by Ian Foote of Stride Management, the group that St Kilda engaged to canvass and sort through the initial list of candidates, and has had psychological testing.

McKenna, who was given greater responsibilities at Collingwood this year and became Mick Malthouse's second in command, is contracted to the Magpies next year, but this would not be an issue if he was offered the position at St Kilda.

The Saints, however, are in no rush to make the appointment and it is understood that it is increasingly unlikely to be made before the October trading period — meaning that the club will make some significant list and trading decisions without the input of the new coach.

Despite the possibility that they will have no senior coach throughout the trading period, the Saints do not have to be concerned about competition for any of the coaches in contention, given that Geelong — the only other club with a coach whose position was under threat — has opted to retain Mark Thompson for 2007.

The Saints have spoken to Sydney assistant John Longmire, who is also considered one of the frontrunners for the position, but cannot enter more detailed discussions or interviews until after the grand final.

Longmire was yesterday named assistant coach of the year by the AFL Coaches Association.

Ken Sheldon, the former St Kilda coach and player and Carlton premiership player, has been hired on an interim basis to make list-management decisions in the absence of a senior coach.

The Saints have promised a rigorous and in-depth selection process before making their decision on the man to replace Grant Thomas.

Former Brisbane Lions and Geelong assistant Daryn Cresswell was among the early interviewees.

In the next phase, the coaching selection panel, which includes former coach and Brownlow medallist Ross Smith and former Carlton premiership coach Robert Walls as well as chief executive Archie Fraser and president Rod Butterss, will assess the candidates.

It will be his first interview with the Saints, the first interview was with Stride Management - just to determine his suitability.

Longmire seems to be a big favourite but in my tiny little world I thought McKenna or Harvey may have been a little ahead.

I know Longmire's credentials look good, but he is the forward coach of a very defencive side (maybe that is what makes him good?), and has he the charisma? Roos is the man - the face of the Swans who tows the line of discipline and patience - or is it only after a premiership one attains charisma? Apologising to PA fans, apart from Williams (more stubbornness) the premier coaches of the last 10 years have appeared God-like in terms of charisma and pondous - Blight, Mathews, Roos etc.

In my recollection Craig , Wallace and Eade have only one Grand final between them - yet are regarded as the smartest coaches - maybe because they can get the most out of poorer teams - but we have a good team so is it the man with the potential charisma we need to find?

Mckenna was a very reliable player who read the ball well, wound up a bit in the back pocket - like Malthouse and Sheedy, and has learnt under Malthouse - has he any charisma? Harvey another goer has trained under Sheedy and seemed to bring good things to Fremantle? I think he shows he has got the goods to be a leader on a big stage - certainly played like it!

Haven't seen many comments about these two - any thoughts?
