He's got the attributes we need. Now to help him get his best assistants.

for those of you who like a flutter get on the odds for top 8 etc for 2018 as we are polling odds of wooden spooners prior to Dew appointment

a massive positive to come of this appointment is the timing.

bluey was sacked on the 1st of october 2014. trade period was all done and dusted on the 16th of october in 2014. rocket was appointed on the 30th of october 2014. a whole trade period & free agency went by with us having no coach. the result? hallahan and malceski.

it would have been better if it was announced a week or so earlier, but he's in the day before the free agency starts. exciting times ahead!

before DWD gets in with his thoughts, let's leave this thread to just be about the coach, yeah?

#dothedew
Sure Exile - have always thought this was the guy... .
As an assistant at Sydney Dew has worked in our environment . None of the other applicants understand us and would have attempted to bring other states rules to us.
This bloke understands where we are at and what we are up against as a Northern club. He has a proven record of achievement as a footballer (2 premierships ), a coach - being a senior Assistant at a club with cultural integrity and in player development (he started as a development coach at Sydney working with a young Dan Hannebery and Luke Power among others.)
Fair to say - if he adopts a Sydney model here he will toughen us up and make us very competitive....and... make the Vics despise us !!!!

Good news.
His biggest impact will be the presumption of stability at the club now with a future.
I doubt he'd have too much of a say during the next few weeks. Probably got too many other things going on. But if I'm wrong then even better cut the slackers and demand everyone buys in immediately. Give lynch a 5 year deal.

I can’t help but giggle at the thought that we could wake up tomorrow and find out Barker is announced as coach and we all go WTF and fall into a deep depression

I’m excited about Dew, was always my preference out of the 3 finalists, is this the turning point for our club, God I hope so

You seem to be super excited that he is the guy to move us forward. Anything in particular that excites you?

In no particular order:
Has a brilliant footy brain
Has kept his head down and learned his craft at The Swans and kept his powder dry for the right opportunity
Is young and has proven track record dealing with developing young players which we need desperately
Knows how to win a premiership
Is gold under pressure, see 2008 GF
Has seen the next best footy dynasty after Hawthorn build and maintain their supremacy at The Swans
Has worked in a non Vic footy environment
Has been in a game plan that is all about accountability, toughness, 4 quarters of effort and blue collar work ethic and .........
.........clearly loves his KFC
