we had an experienced, hard -edged, tactically astute coach who was adept at instilling a 'take no prisoners' culture into the club already.
Rocket had no chance of being successful. He was Let down by the football department and the board.
Set up to fail with the same assistant coachs as the 1st coach.
Rocket was the right man for the job we just had to make Richmond like changes around him. He had the full backing of the playing group

well said. as much as I liked Solomon as a player, it worries me that he's to stay on at all costs for this very reason ^

The same one that started with a spare in defence against Freo (who barely get it forward) or the one that allowed Docherty play 20 metres clear and Gibbs run amok with 40 touches?
Hard edged? We finished a mile last in tackles.
Rocket was good for the club off field, there's no doubt about that.

The exact same football department and board got us to 10 wins 12 losses in 2014 in our 4th year. The only thing that changed between then and now was the coach and yes, he had to clean up the club a bit but I just don't understand where all the love for rocket is coming from. The game moved past him and we didn't just stagnate in development during his tenure, we completely dropped off a cliff.

I agree with those instances you point out, they were poor. at the Dogs he was the best in the business tactically. ask anyone who was around at that time about the Jolly/ruck matchup.

ah well, it's over now. just don't think he was the issue. hopefully whoever comes in can work out why the hell we have no confidence or desire or mongrel.

Rocket was exactly what was needed day 1.

You conveniently left out the fact we had a fit and firing playing group with the like of Ablett, O'Meara, Bennell, Swallow, Prestia, Rischitelli nice try though

I can tell you exactly why we don't have those qualities. There is a lack of accountability up here. The players aren't getting smashed by the media every week for poor performances and the public doesn't care how the team performs to a large degree.

We need to bring in a coach that demands accountability from every single employee at the Gold Coast Footy Club. Every player must be accountable for their efforts. Every assistant coach must be accountable for their performance. These guys have been coasting (excuse the pun) for years.

We desperately need a coach that demands accountability and has a deep understanding of the modern game. That's why Clarkson would have been enormous for us. I have my fingers crossed that Stuart Dew is going to instill the accountability we need to go forward as a football club.

Seen some compelling reasons for Dew but for it to be even close surely there is something just as strong about Barker that we are not privy to

well this has been the biggest question mark for mine. thank you for being gutsy, honest and intelligent enough to speak so eloquently.

Under Bluey I was constantly enthused and filled with excitement and promise for the future.

Then in came Rocket who then told the members and the GC community that we should all lower our expectations and he then duly delivered on what he asked us all to do by giving us 3 wretched forgettable years that I want to wipe from my memory.

Good Luck Coach number 3-get us enthused and up and about again.

Did not realise Dew was Sydney's development coach from 2009 to 2011. Make's me want him on board even more considering they have arguably the best player development in the league
Time to expand on this and really blow everyone's mind when it comes to his developmental skills.

2009 draft - #6 Gary Rohan, #14 Lewis Jetta, #38 Sam Reid, #54 Byron Sumner, #55 Trent Dennis-Lane
2010 draft - #21 Jed Lamb, #40 Luke Parker, #57 Alex Johnson, #73 Matt Spangher
2011 draft - #21 Tom Mitchell, #43 Jordan Lockyer, #61 Alex Brown

If that doesn't get you excited nothing will.

I kinda messed up in the post above because he wouldn't have been the development coach for the 2011 class. So I've added the 2008 class he would have been working with in his first year as development coach and it's just as impressive.

2008 draft - #12 Lewis Johnston, #30 Dan Hannebery, #61 Campbell Heath, rookie - Mike Pyke
