I think most of this forum wants dew , so you can lock barker in.

From all info I have heard over the last 2-months, Barker was locked in 3 days after Rocket stood down.

It was then up to another candidate to dislodge him from getting the job, which it looks like Hinkley was bloody close to doing.

But at least we should hopefully find out tomorrow or Wednesday if Dew has impressed Evans and the selection panel enough to now push Barker aside?

I wonder if Barker even had to go through the process.
Because it seems Evens had him hand pick before he was moved up here by the afl

Is it really a process if you pick one before starting :/

That's what happens all the time with jobs, especially in the Public Service.
They panel gets stacked and the most crucial part of the process is who gets put on the panel rather than the presentation and references of the applicants.

I'm concerned about Ashcroft being on it as I'm worried he will just agree with Evans as a last ditch effort to keep his job.

As soon as Craig joined Evens on that panel it was weighted Barkers way. Hope Dew has impressed as I think he has many more plusses going for him that would aid us.. .

I can tell you exactly why we don't have those qualities. There is a lack of accountability up here. The players aren't getting smashed by the media every week for poor performances and the public doesn't care how the team performs to a large degree.

We need to bring in a coach that demands accountability from every single employee at the Gold Coast Footy Club. Every player must be accountable for their efforts. Every assistant coach must be accountable for their performance. These guys have been coasting (excuse the pun) for years.

We desperately need a coach that demands accountability and has a deep understanding of the modern game. That's why Clarkson would have been enormous for us. I have my fingers crossed that Stuart Dew is going to instill the accountability we need to go forward as a football club.
That doesn't affect the Mighty Melbourne Storm does it.
Hardly anyone in the Street in Melbourne knows them. Rarely in the papers down there.
That's a cop out. They have built an internal accountability and standards driven by the best Coach in Australian sport and great team leadership in Smith Cronk Slater etc.
The fish rots from the head down.
Ablett is the fish head.

I think what the two of you are saying isn't exclusive, just that accountability has to come from somewhere

At Melbourne AFL clubs it's external even when it isn't there internally, and at a club like the Swans, the Storm or here it must come from within

That's right. I probably should have articulated that a little better. I was trying to say there is very little pressure coming the local media/public so we have to drive our own internal standards and expectations if we want to be successful.

From the Herald Sun (Andrew Hamilton)

Gold Coast were expected to make a late call to Richmond’s Blake Caracella, who was unavailable until after the Tigers’ premiership victory, but it is unknown if there will be an interview.

It is also understood inaugural Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft is leaving the club.

Culture there was built on salary cap cheating to the level of $4million. Thanks to that unfair advantage the joint got into the habit of winning and when they were busted unlike what the AFL does which is an attempt at genuine punishment they got hit with a feather and only lost one player-Inglis.
If you want to be like Melbourne try and cook the books for a while and hope the results build a winning culture.

How can you say the storm got away with cheating they were stripped of their 2007 and 2009 premierships and their 2006, 2007 and 2008 minor premierships and fined them an Australian sporting record $1,689,000

What an amazingly clueless post.

It was stripping of some titles that they still arrogantly have reunions to celebrate which shows how they feel about getting sprung but the damage to them moving forward was that of a feather unlike the sledgehammer taken to Carlton years ago.
They basically kept their illegal team together except for Inglis.
Terrible. Everything that club has achieved is tarnished.

i can take you hating every other AFL club but leave the Storm alone. This isn't the board for it and this is defiantly not the thread

This whole thing is in the context of the discussion further up this page about winning cultures.
One person said that what we have going against us is our anonymity and lack of media pressure, then another person came in and said look at the Melbourne Storm they are successful due to this reason and that reason, I then added my bit to it which was getting into the habit of winning through the means of getting an unfair advantage can then lead to that habit being ingrained in the culture.
So it's adding to the discussion on culture.
They are a mighty club unfortunately and you can learn plenty from them but that part of their history has to be remembered when discussing how they got to be who they are today.

So it wasn't a random just attack on them, it was to do with the above discussion.

I shouldn't need to justify myself to you. Don't be personal and look at the context of people's posts.
