I’m still not convinced
Yeah, consistency is going to be the key for Sexton. His best was pretty good this year, and his worst was barely NEAFL standard — he should have had a spell there halfway through the year.

He is best 22 in a pretty average team right now, but don't forget Brandon Matera was too for a bunch of time. Brandon's 10 games in 2017 compare really nicely with Sexton's form this year, yet they both struggle with turning up every week. I hope Sexton can smooth his form line out, he's definitely earned some more time to prove his worth.

Sexton's first half of the season was pretty horrid. Typical of him where he'd have a blinding game one week and then a month of shit straight after. If he can play like he did in the second half of the season all year in 2019 then I'm well and truly on board.

Has all the tools to be an amazing player, and I think when we become a strong team overall, he's the sort of player that will benefit the most.
When midfield is overwhelmed often forwards look useless, the same for defenders. We just need to fix the midfield.

Sexton need to be consistent , there are not many players that can give him competition this year . ( Hebron , Dawson , Powell)
1) Ah Chee more a half back
2) Ainsworth Dual role and injuries
3) Martin playing everywhere
He wouldn’t be the only one needing to be more consistent.

It's crazy to think how many breakout candidates we have next season. Our list is young but we really are in that sweetspot of having a massive breakout year with so many close to being physically ready to compete. Lynch leaving will hinder this a little obviously but consider that:

Macpherson - injury ruined him this year but he's pivotal to Dew's forward pressure gameplan. between 1 - 2 goals per game would not be out of the question
Brodie - 24 possession average over his last 5 games and was top 10 in the comp for average centre clearances. Will be a starting mid next year
Ainsworth - averaged over a goal a game up forward year one and found a fair bit of it when in the midfield this season. should come on next year
Scrimshaw - could very well cement a spot at HB and have a Tom Doedee like season. Will be a big mover next season imo without Rischitelli.
Bowes - Looked unreal when put in the middle in the last few games. 23 possession average in the last 3 games.
Wright - Full season he could kick 40+ goals.
Miller - career high in possessions, goals, clearances and tackles this year. 5th year next year, could really break out as a 25+ touch mid
Ah Chee - still needs to find his best position but he improved in defence as the season went on and he's already shown he CAN kick bags up forward
Fiorini - our leading brownlow vote getter at 20 y/o. Bookmark him as a 25+ touch midfielder. averaged 28 touches last 3 rounds back from injury
Joyce - silent achiever and unreal by foot. he had a bad patch this year but he's one I think has a lot of improvement left and only 21.

are all entering their 3rd, 4th or 5th years, this is the season we should expect to start seeing some real improvement in all of them and thats a huge chunk of our best 22.

I agree , but at his age he needed to , so are Martin and Weller .Every players that plays more than 50 AFL games will judge on their output rather than potential.

You could add Weller and Martin to the list. Ballard is probably not too far behind. We just need to limit injuries.

Your right and I love the optimism, pity our club doesn’t have any history in delivering this. Even Martin who was touted as the best junior ever has not reached anywhere near star status.
He’s one of our best but their are plenty around the league better

In all his interviews he purposely said he knocked back ‘easier’ ready made positions in order to come up here and challenge himself.

Surely Gary Lyon doesn’t think he just realised now he’s got a hard job ahead of him.

Lyon is your classic Victorian who l would bet spends very little time out of the State.

“FORMER Carlton assistant Tim Clarke has become the Gold Coast Suns newest development coach.

Clarke left the Blues in August after spending the past three seasons coaching their midfield and will now help mould Gold Coast’s young list.

“Tim is an exciting addition to our coaching group, and we look forward to Tim, (wife) Bec and (son) Zach moving up to the Gold Coast and becoming an important part of the Gold Coast family,” Suns football manager Jon Haines said.”

I struggle to get excited by any coaching staff that are coming from the Carlton administration

Cripps, Fisher and to some extent curnow have improved the last few years

On the other hand: boekhurst, sumner, Cunningham, Buckley .. sps at a stretch

Didn’t improve or live up to expectations (sps still could be very good and played v well against us)

Hopefully we can’t get better results.
Is he going to be our midfield coach?

Being from Carlton doesn't sound too promising.
But midfield coach and you'd have to say Cripps has developed into a superstar, Fisher 2nd year from 11 to 18 disposals a game. Dow and O'Brien top 10's who looked really good.
