Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew believes he’s an easy target and has hit back at claims after his future was put on red alert on Monday night.
Dew was assured at a meeting with Suns Chief executive Mark Evans on Tuesday that a report claiming he will be sacked within a month were “unfounded.”
Dew also received a text message from Suns chairman, Bob East who is holidaying in Vietnam, offering words of support.
Dew told the Herald Sun on Tuesday night: “He (Evans) absolutely told me it (the report) was unfounded.”
The claims, made by Channel 9’s Caroline Wilson, were extremely disappointing Dew said.
“There’s no accountability,” he said.
“Last year, (Alastair) Clarkson’s got my job, then he’s got Essendon’s job, Carlton’s job.
“In the past 18 months she’s gone six or seven times about me and not once has she bothered to pick up the phone to me.
“She just doesn’t care about the person.
“For me I’ve been in the industry for a long time but it’s your family and you’re constantly fielding calls from those people.
Dew said the players approached him about the reports on Tuesday.
“The players are filthy. They’re like, ‘you’re our coach mate, we’ve signed knowing you’re going to be our coach and we’re in it.’
“They asked me ‘what do you want to do about (the claims)’.
“I said boys don’t worry about it.”
About his future, Dew said: “I’ll know before anyone if I’m not the one.
“We are building something … everyone’s on board.
“Noah Anderson doesn’t sign, Ben King doesn’t sign if they can’t see success.
“ … it’s just disappointing, just find some new material.
The Suns were thrashed by 78 points on Saturday afternoon by Collingwood putting Dew’s future once again under the microscope.
Former teammate and three-time premiership coach Damien Hardwick has been linked to Suns role after he declared he was keen to coach again last week.
Dew said his side still had belief despite the loss to Collingwood.
“People in our club get what we’re doing, where we are at. It was a bad loss on the weekend but that Collingwood team might win the grand final this year by 10 goals.
“And that’s not to say our effort wasn’t great.”
If players are explicitly stating they have singed the dotted line on the belief and understanding that they will continue to be coached by stewieWhy?
It’s a sporting business not a friendly bbq club
Like Kath said on AFL 360, if the players are truly asking what they can do to show they back him then surely a big response against Port Adelaide this weekend is the best way to show that...if the players are legitimately backing him this much it does mean a lot
95% of players will back there coach who gets the sack…
It’s how humans behave.
Doesn’t mean they’re making the right decisions.
They formed a bond.
Bonds don’t necessarily win games of football
I remember when ratten was sacked last year… the players weren’t happy about it.
If the players were running the football club there would be a lot bigger issues at hand
Exactly. What a load of dilusional BS. Easy target my God this bloke has enjoyed an unbelievable lack of scrutiny during his Coaching career.Sounds like he using his i’m everyone’s best friend..
The players all love me…
They signed for me…
To keep his job…
Everything but actually winning games of football…
poor bloke wouldn’t know what hit him if it hit him between the eyes

Prioty picks more first round draft picks than some Clubs have had in a decade and FA has happened.
And now that he's run out of BS to spin to the Club he's in a state of shock.
Go back and watch the Carlton and Collingwood press conferences he even catches himself out and realises his churning out the same rethorical BS excuses.

Mark who? We see him once a year at bestDo we expect to hear from Mark Evans tomorrow? If they actually did reassure him of their backing today then surely Evans stands up in front of the media tomorrow and makes that message clear.
I said bugger all for the first few years. Everyone said he gets 2 to 3 years to get his game plan staff etc sorted then he needs to produce.you have scrutinised him since the day he entered the joint..
