Good coaching today I thought. Firstly they got the selections right, and bringing in 4 fresh players reduced the risk of suffering from the trip to Brisbane and the heat. Selecting Campbell and Walker the stand-out decisions. Perhaps not selecting Warnock (as opposed to selecting Gilmore) was a good move too.

Also got quite a few areas of the ground right too. Big kudos to Dodd, and the backline generally. Midfield we did alright. Our clearances turned around a bit.

Also, congratulations to the coaching/recruiting staff on the Tarrant trade. I think we would have lost today without him.

I reckon Matt Carr spends waaaaaaay too much time in the centre square. I'd prefer him to come off the line to tag the oppositions best ball winner. I was in block 104 and unfortunately Carr copped it from the crowd when he was taken from the ground.

Walker and Campbell were good selections. Gilmore was crap around the ground but not sure how we went at the stoppages when he was in the ruck.

I was happy to see Pav on the ball to start the game but unfortunately he had little influence. Johnson struggled on the wing in the first term too.

Playing McPharlin on Buddy when he was deep and Dodd on him when he went for a run was very clever.

i didnt see warnock play last week but surely he had to give us more competition in the ruck .when 211 leaves the ground we start to loose the all importat clearences . gilmore just isnt good enough in that area plus with what i believe could be the end of jlo he needs to experience as much top level football as possible

Connolly deciding to go man on man after quarter time also worked out :thumbsu:

Good to see I wasn't the only person who thought that.

God it shat me the number of times our players zoned off instead of attacked the man when a Hawthorn player had the ball in the first quarter and a half.

Is it really that hard to know that when you put direct physical pressure on just about all players when they've got the ball, they're more likely to cough it up?

Of course he would, but Hawthorn are a much better running side to us. Even though Gilmore was ordinary, he does get around the ground better than the rucks do and provides another running midfielder. I think the strategy is a really good one, though Gilmore's skills let us down. For all the talk of MJ in the middle, it is Gilmore doing what I thought MJ may have been used for.

Seems this is the solution to our boys playing well. Had to do it against Adelaide and won that.

I believe it makes our players more accountable to each other, therefore they lift.

You would think we would scrap this loose man in defense idea and just start out man on man.

Glad we nutted out a win.

No doubting Matty Carr's tagging credentials but he is way down on confidence, his skill execution under pressure yesterday was ugly..........praps time for a run in the wafl to regain some all important confidence???
