Cold showers are a rare occurrence for me, it has to be a stinking hot day for me to consider it.

Do the supposed benefits extend to cold baths or swimming in extremely cold water?
I ask because, I'm a somewhat keen bushwalker and I am quite partial to a swim at the end of a long and hard hike. I've swum in a few extremely cold lakes- Tali Karng and Rocky Valley Dam in the Victorian Alps, Pedder, Gordon and Great Lake in Tassie are ones that come to mind- and I reckon I've always felt much less stiff and sore post-hike after swims in those extra cold ones compared to, say, when I've gone from a swim post-hike in a relatively warm body of water.
