given all the talk about equalizing the game, one of the huge problems i see is that if you want to make all the sides equal financially than you are limiting excellence, collingwood west coast adelaide invest millions and millions into new and better ways to improve all departments and fascilities, they do this because they have the money and resources to pump into it.. you take this away and make everyone equal it isnt going to happen anymore like it has

the question i want to ask here is over the past 10 years what specifically has the collingwood football club brought into practice through investing, example sports science practices or new medical fascilities, recovery techniques such and such

what are some of the contributions to the games sports science has collingwood introduced?

I am not certain but i believe we were the first club to bring in training at altitude.

It appears most clubs are following us

Player Development staff. Alan Richardson was the first coach in charge of player development in the AFL. All clubs now have them. We have four.

Hyperbaric chambers to help maintain the benefits of altitude once leaving altitude.
We have a training facility within 10 minutes of where the majority of our games are played so we begin the post game recovery process quicker than most teams. A lot of that revolves around rehydrating, refuelling, ice baths, massages which we have tailored programs for - every team would though, the difference is we kick ours off quicker post game.
We've developed our own key performance indicators and stats to better measure our players performances.
As Jelly Bean mentioned, player development staff was a big innovation.
The establishment of a Director of Coaching Role.
Along with Geelong the establishment of a stand alone VFL side which allows us control over player development.
We have the biggest recruitment department in the AFL including scouts in every state and internationally.
We have been very aggressive in taking advantage of scholarship programs in NSW although at this stage we have not reaped any rewards. Hopefully Witts and EE change that. Young was a VFL b&f winner and is now at the Dogs and we still have Hartley on the list.
We recruited Keeffe for nothing as an unlisted footballer and he looks to be a long term KPD for us.

I should note that it isn't hyperbaric chambers to maintain altitude - they do the opposite (e.g. increased oxygen penetration, rather than reduced).

I agree with the Director of Coaching role you have said. I think Geelong need to take credit for the VFL side, and not sure the NSW program is quite an innovation driven by us.

On the field as well though, we have the Leigh Brown role, the heavy rotations, and the fierce tackling pressure.
