Ahh, comedy from the west at it's finest...

Don't worry though mate, despite the problems the Pies may have against some of the lesser teams of the competition, they are still a class and a half above your mob...

So you must be a Collingwood supporter to be even remotely critical of them?

Do you really think Hawthorn would of dropped a game to Carlton though? or Richmond? or Melbourne? At the moment, I just could not see that happening. I pointed out in an earlier post the Pies have made a habit of losing to the cellar dwellers in recent years and it has gone on to cost them bigtime. I also believe Hawthorn defeated Collingwood the last time they played. They have clearly overtaken them as the competition's greatest challenger to the reigning premiers.

Yes, we get reminded daily on here you "only" lost by 5 points in the Preliminary Final and how you won a final in Perth last year - a great achievement. But we'll all look back at 2007 and remember the Cats got the chocolates on the day when it counted most.

Collingwood cannot possibly be considered legitimate contenders if they continue to lose to the lower ranked teams. The general consensus pregame was that it was going to be a romp in the park, and it should of been. Carlton played well for sure and deserved their win, but it's a game the Pies should of definately won. The next few weeks will be telling - they have the wood over the Kangaroos in a big way, Anzac Day is usually a tight affair and I expect the Bombers to lift for that one, followed by the clash with Hawthorn. Anything less than 2 wins in that lot would be an extreme dissapointment. Interesting times ahead.

Anybody can lose to anybody on any given day. Hence why there is sports betting, and hence why more than one team's supporters will rock up to a match because it is never a formality one team will beat another and there will always be upsets.

1 result = not much can be read.

History of results = something can be read.

And we do have something we need to work on in that we take weaker sides too lightly in the past, if that's our greatest headache I am happy to have it because it can easily be fixed.

Collingwood will be there at the business end of 2008 irrespective of this loss, Essendon and Carlton won't. You don't like this so your just clutching at straws while you still can hype boi. ;)

Let's wait until Anzac Day shall we.

The Pies were not exposed at all. We already know about them.

They are a very good side based upon WORK ETHIC and PRESSURE and 1%ers. They are not the most talented side, and not even one-eyed Collingwood fans could really say they are.

What happened on Sunday was the Pies did not 100% commit themselves to the game, and ran into a team that was utterly desperate. If the Pies don't go 100%, if they just turn up and expect to win, they can get into trouble.

The Pies will be fine. They're a good side, and they got a rude shock on Sunday. It will serve them well. I wouldn't want to be the Kangaroos this week, actually.

On the flipside, from Carlton's point of view... fantastic. We'll take it, whether the Pies were good, bad, or indifferent. Well done, Blue boys.

Again I'd like to remind the poster that the thread at hand is about the Collingwood Football Club... deflection tactics aimed at Essendon's performances in recent years has nothing to do with it, why don't you leave those tactics to Mick Malthouse? For the first week in a long time on the weekend the Pies' lost because they simply were not good enough on the day, and it was the first week in which MM didn't come up with some pathetic deflection based on free kicks, the AFL or whatever enters his head at a press conference...

As for the Bombers, there is no doubt they have a long way to go in many areas. Anyone with any real idea about football expected not much from them this year, and at the moment it seems to be playing out that way. They are an average football side at the moment but are putting the blocks together for a potential tilt in a few years time. I expect them to perhaps win 6-8 games this season.

This is in vast contrast to Collingwood, who played in a Preliminary Final last year and were expected to be bigger and better this year. It's only one loss, I know - but do you really think there is any significance to any of their Grand Final losses from decades ago to their performance on the weekend? Absolutely not. This was Collingwood who had played in the Preliminary Final last year against a side that had lost 14 consecutive games. It's a game that the Magpies should of won - but didn't. Serious questions still must linger about their credibility as a genuine contender. The likes of Geelong and Hawthorn would never have allowed such a game to slip - that's the difference between the best and the rest.

LOL.

What about a pathetic deflection based on 3 6 day breaks between games causing all our dodgey hammy's?

No worries Jock McHale, can you tell me more about my club?

how could collingwood = exposed? that doesnt make sense. its not even saying collingwood are actually exposed its saying they are equal to the word exposed. collingwood is quite clearly a football club and not the word 'exposed'.

they'll go alright the pies, bad loss to blues but they will probably still make the top 4.

Hamstring Deflection? Matthew Knights has not once used excuses for his side's 3 (1 being a narrow loss in the NAB Cup Semi Final) losses so far this season. He understands and accepts Essendon are miles away from the contenders this season and will continue to develop the list further. Knights suggested the hamstring problem could be contributed to three 6 day breaks - he did not blame this for any loss at all.

"suggested" "could" "contributed"

mmm.......Sounds like a Mick Malthouse going around in circles line.

Pathetic.

Collingwood has a history of overachieving with ordinary sides (eg 2007,2003,2002,1981,1980,1979 were all years when we had no right talent wise to be in preliminary finals or grand finals). So what should you do? Critisise the hell out of us like most opposition supporters are keen to do in this thread or admire us?

We are a great club to follow because they always give you hope, even when the talent is not there.

The Carlton loss is a prime example of our lack of talent being exposed. We have at least 5 players who are ordinary at best(O'Bree, O'Brien,Maxwell, Fraser, Johnson) , 2 who are not up to AFL standard(Stanley, Toovey), a workman like midfield, only one ruckman(Wood),one who must be very close to retirement(Rocca) and a butchering of the football that is only betterd by Richmond. Yet we will be competitive in most games we play this year. If football was played on talent alone we would probably be a bottom 4 team. This was the same story in 2003, 2002,1981 etc

In 3 or 4 years though, you critics might have to go into hiding as we may very well have the talent.:)

Blues = revelation !

Nothing the pies, or anyone else for that matter, could have done. Blues would have beaten anyone in the league.

Were always going to take some time to find their feet, this happened sooner than expected, but one we were up and running it was always a given that there would be few who could challenge us.

Blues have are probably the most talent laden outfit in the comp taking its very first steps - could prove to be one of the greatest dynasties in decades....

Cant see who is going to stand up to us ...maybe Geelong - beyond that - not much.

No reflection on Collingwood what so ever.

Exactly my point! Collingwoods work ethic and pressure was down due to in my opinion the Collingwood players throught that they had the game won before the opening bounce! this has been happening since 2006 with losses to Essendon, Melbourne, Richmond and Carlton. All this shows me is a lack of respect Collingwood have shown these teams! I have no doubt that against North Collingwood with be back to its high pressure and great tackling best!
