Pies dont have a tagger and dont usually play one but was wondering who everyone thought would be good as a run with player if given the job... I was personally thinking Leon Davis with his pace to burn and AWESOME tackling would do well in this role whereas a collegue thought Medhurst (after his tackle last monday where he ran from nowhere and got a great tackle) could do it...
Both probably arent fit enough to run out whole games but what do people think of these boys being given that sorta role if the opportunity arose where Pies needed one desperatly?
I think they'd do okay...

no neitehr could tag nor is it in our best interest.

I think marty could become a fairly good tagger in the ling mould, and goldsack in the Stenglien mould as the tall mid that can follow his man every where.

Right now rhyce is our main tagger, with all mids providing back up really

Ditto, and a pretty good one at that IMO.
The only problem is that he can't prove himself as a solid tagger in the VFL, as the quality is nowehere near AFL quality.
Even if he succeeds in shutting down an opposition player in the VFL, it wouldn't be enough to secure himself a spot in the seniors.
That's why i hope Malthouse continues to give him regular opportunities at AFL level as he usually does with his players.

I reckong thats what Collingwood are trying to do, mould Cookie into that role. Therefore he will never shine but be an asset in the long run. He goes alright when allowed on the ball, but has had very limited opportunities to do this since being drafted. Time will tell

I personally think that unless your a ling or a kirk there is no point in tagging a player, mainly because it effectively makes u one man short. If your given a tagging role with your sole objective on your opponent and not on the ball you become obsolete. How often does a tagger actually successfully curb the influence of a game, the only time you should be worried about a particular player is around the stoppages, otherwise everyone goes to their direct opponent or to the nearest free man. 18 vs 18
