Pies thoroughly deserved to win. I don't think we played particularly badly, they just played better.

Genuinely, thanks for the game. We knew we were up against an extremely classy unit and we had to try and be more attacking if we were a chance to knock you off. It was probably one of the most interesting game to watch of ours since about 2003 - plenty of goals kicked and risk taking.

You guys have a good structure and should be thereabouts years end, skill level and your run is close to best in the league..with some more improvement from the big fellas up forward (love Hansen) as the year goes on this game might only be a blip on the radar for you guys.

It was disappointing. I dont want to rag on Collingwood but there list is one of the most ordinary in the league and a host of there best 22 wouldnt get near a game for the Eagles. Yet amazingly they beat us?

It was well deserved though and it shows you something about our grand old game. Collingwood wanted it more, they were more commited, they got numbers around the ball, they were hard at it, desperate and everybody was willing to work. WC usually do all those things but yesterday they didnt and for all the talent on our list we got beat.

Just goes to show that even if your players are crap, if they show 100% commitment you can win games of footy.

Disappointed to lose but maybe we needed that wake up call. Hopefully all the players on the plane trip home realised that we wont just be given the premiership this year.

Agreed 100%. Passion counted for more than reputation on the day. Hopefully, the loss will do us good.

could say the same about our key position players, forwards and defenders

Proves the theory that any side on their day can beat any other team in the comp.

no excuses - full credit to the Pies on an outstanding effort.

Collingwood did some tactical things that no other team has tried this year and pulled it off. Will be interesting to see if other teams try to do the same.

1) Take on our midfield - Although I think this largely had to do with the fact that Mark Fraser was bouncing the ball, which played into the hands of the Collingwood midfield who have a reactionary setup and didn't allow us to set up our normal attacking play.
2) Play the best defender on Hansen - Hansen has been the biggest key to our forward line working as it has. It seems if you shut him down our forward line shuts down.
3) Attack through a small forward - It seemed Tarrant was a secondary target while Caracella was the main target and it worked a treat, although Nicoski probably wasn't the best match up for him. We need punda back.

Collingwood played with more sustained intensity and also had some luck but thems the breaks. They aren't as bad as their ladder position suggests. Hopefully this is just a one-off and we can bounce back against Port this week.

Even as a WCE supporter, I can't agree with that statement.
A fit Nathan Buckley is certainly better than Kerr and at least the equal of Fletcher and Cousins.

maybe 2+ yrs ago. buckley is getting on. he plays off half forward more than in the middle nowadays.
