So I guess we know why the club has increased memberships this season!
Good old “inflation” lol

Never mind we lost a shorts sponsor.

Landsberger is a Murdoch cretin and Clark is a piece of s**t, but the former makes a good point here.

So far our gun CEO with a “strong commercial background” -

1) has pissed off our highest paying members on Level 2 by forcefully removing them from their existing bays and monetising the premium wing seats

2) Has failed to land a shorts sponsor for the 2024 season potentially losing out on $400-$500k of revenue

3) Suffered a major blow on the eve of the season when AIA as a major sponsor ended its arrangement with the club after being a major partner for the past 3 years.
What’s more embarrassing is North begged them to stay on and got told no.

Tell me again why the f*** was Jen Watts chosen ahead of Simon Lloyd as CEO?
And we are 3 drafts away from Tasmania entering the competition with still no strategic exit plan in place to replace the Hobart home games revenue.

Other than, everything else is going well on and off the field 👍🏼

Thank f*** we are debt free as the financials this year are going to make for some interesting reading to see how we balance the books again.

Get this fraud out of the club and bring Euge back ffs

Agree. I did notice, and to some,
maybe not worth noting given the frustration Luke and Jy cause us on-field, but I really liked how Luke waited at the entrance of the rooms post Tassie game, for everyone of his teammate and acknowledged them as they walked in. Small gesture but I liked it.

I don’t think for one second Luke and Jy are ‘not trying’ or ‘don’t care’. Sometimes you can try too hard and it all goes pear shaped.

Anyway, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
100%! Great post Danni, I've said it a few times myself, "sometimes you can try to hard", its a combination of several things and while our captains are not playing all that well you can see that they are trying, when things like this happen its never just one thing, even if it looks that way! :north:

Okay so this is just an exercise in numbers.

In 1974, there were 12 teams in the VFL and Australia's population was 13.72 million. Virtually no players came from NSW or QLD, while SA and WA leagues were still very strong. Arguably, the VFL was just drawing from Victoria's population along with a small number of interstate recruits, but I'll ignore that point.

In 1984, there were still only 12 teams in the VFL and Australia's population was 15.58 million. There were still virtually no players from NSW or QLD but the VFL was by this point swallowing up many of the quality players from SA and WA.

In 1994, the VFL had become the AFL, the game was national and there were 15 teams. Australia's population was 17.81 million and we were finally seeing some very good players emerge from NSW and QLD.

Here we are in 2024, with a population of 26.65 million and an 18 team league.

So across 50 years, our population has almost doubled and we've gone from 12 to 18 teams. On a pro rata basis, if you were to say the game was great in the 70s or the 80s, then the AFL should be able to handle at least 23 teams. And if you take the 90s as the benchmark, then proportional population increase still assumes 23 teams would be feasible today.
Doesn’t work like that. The demographics have changed. Also, its now a niche game requiring a rare set of skills to compete at the highest level.

Asians didn’t take up the game and sub continent are not taking up the game.

Its not sustainable, population is not enough for 3 codes of sport. Middle eastern people mostly play sokkah.. but would equally be split amongst the other 2 codes.

That's a fair counter argument. I just get annoyed with the whole "There are too many teams these days, please eliminate 3!" nonsense. There is an inference that this argument has some basis of mathematical / population data behind it but it is entirely personal opinion. But as they say, facts don't care about your feelings.
My argument is the way the game is, in its current shape, its not sustainable. They need to slow the game down. It’ll bring more talent into the elite mix.

Tell me again how many players we have delisted AND how many of them ended up on another AFL list???

There is not enough talent in the country to have an even competition
. ESPECIALLY with free agency.

Watt is going nowhere as she’s woke and since our club is woke it’s not going to happen.
BTW:Why didn’t our club have an ANZAC jumper last week?

Its a good question.. I attend every dawn service, have done so for as long as I can remember. However, I usually leave it there at the end of the service. I buy a pin every year in the lead up.

The question I have, why are we commercialising war? I get the game, Collingwood vs *. Maybe even the anzac eve game. Then it should be left there. Thats the recognition.

Its not an ANZAC weekend and commercialisation of war doesn’t sit well with me.

Good on the Kangas for not doing it.

Ultimately, Damo is more interested in us picking up a cooked Pendlebury, so he can point at it when he does nothing on field and say "North were wrong to waste any draft capital on a 38 yo player, when in the past they cut an equally old Harvey who was in better playing shape, these decisions by a minnow club need to be looked at harshly by the AFL" yada yada yada

But certain people on BF have said for years that we don't need the Tassie money...

Pendlebury isn’t the answer unless he was free and took on a dev/coach role on heck all coin. A 32 yr old pendlebury would be the right fit. The bloke is ******* cooked beyond all means.

Carried to 400 without question.

Phenomenal player, but needed to hang them up at the end of last year.

No strategic exit plan that we are aware of. It's not unheard of that an organisation would keep cards close to their chest until the time is right to make an announcement.

Collingwood are in an interesting position and you can see it grating Eddie, as he knows the sharks will be circling his favorite son since Buckley.

It's similar to the Buckley/Malthouse/North offer situation, but with one major difference.

McRae has just won a flag, is a young coach and is adored by the supporter base. You can't possibly keep Pendlebury with the promise of any sort of major career progression.

The other change is, the days are gone of just offering a senior role to a player essentially fresh out of playing like we were going to with Buckley.

From Pendlebury's perspective, he's not going to learn any more from Fly than he already has as their senior player. He's also played under Buckley and Malthouse and been at the club for almost 2 decades.

I doubt he comes here in our current mess, but I could see him spending some time at Geelong or even the GC under Dimma or somewhere similar. GWS would be a smart move also.

He has young kids and lives down in Mornington now, so I don't think moving the family interstate will be an option.
