Just finished watching the Swans v Suns game which was absolutely putrid btw. Anyway its becoming more and more frustrating listening to commentators barracking for a team, especially when a stronger side is playing a weaker side. No more was this evident and bloody annoying today listening to Dwayne Russell and Dunstall. Its even more embarrassing when a side is getting done by lots like tonight.
Dunstall is one of the worst for it, however today Dwayne Russell took the cake as he mentioned how amazing it would be if "the GC could win the quarter" literally 7 times, for god sake Dwayne we heard you the 5th time and no one gives a toss if they win the quarter.
Last night Basil Zempillas was just gunning the Dockers home which was fairly embarrassing as well.

There are def some great commentators who simply call the game really well like Huddo and Committee however muppets like the ones ive just mentioned need a bit more media training because they absolutely stink.

Freo barracking was woeful, Carlton barracking was embarassing, the Gold Coast barracking was just trying to keep the game alive. There's a difference between what Dwayne (who I dislike) was doing and what Eddie was doing.

You do know Basil hates Freo.
He didn't last night. I don't know which one of them started the cheering but we didn't rate a mention all night. I've checked the fixture again to see when we play :p

The Carlton cheering was almost insulting to Carlton.

Talking up the underdog is fine ... you can often appreciate the encouragement ... i too dont mind listening to a WA or SA coverage of a game sometimes understanding there will be a bias as is needed to encourage the local supporter base. I did think though FOX and Channel 7 were for the masses so was surprised by the constant bias of Basil in the coverage ... anything Richmond done was lucky and the dam was always about the break right up until Vickerys final goal ... even though Freo never got close at any point in the game. I found it annoying listening to him. He may hate Freo as someone said but to him they were the only team in town last night.

Clinton Gybras was the most unbiased and best overcall caller I'd seen. Use emotion with the tide of the game in the right manner without any silly wowed, other calling gimmicks or barracking

It was embarrassing last night. Richmond play one of the more stunning games of the year and the commentators just wanna jizz over Fyfe and Fremantle. We saw one of the biggest upsets of the year. We saw the undefeated ladder leaders get humiliated on their home deck by a team that has been criticised as going nowhere or treading water. We saw one of the most remarkable quarters of the year last night, yet they didn't want a bar of it. They were too obsessed with their scripted narrative of last night being a celebration of all things Fyfe.

Today's game wasn't much better. I thought I was watching a Carlton premiership celebration. It was over the top right from the word go. It was so bad I almost forgot the Crows were playing, yet they won. The lack of emotion when Jenkins kicked that late goal was telling. It was actually really patronizing towards Carlton. MARC MURPHY THE ABSOLUTE SUPERSTAR!!!!!!. CAAAASSSSSSSSSBAAAAAAAUUUUUUULTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!! KRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! Eddie was screaming like it was the dying minutes of a tight grand final when they went 12-0 up early in the game. It was like the Crows weren't even playing.

The commentators seriously need to pull their heads in. It's one thing to try to liven up a dull game, even to hope for a comeback, but when you openly barrack for the losing team it's extremely disrespectful to the the winner. They have became obsessed with the possibility of the comeback. "They're only 6 goals down now wowee that could be the firestarter" type commentary has become all too common this year. They have become so obsessed with close games and comebacks they have forgotten that sometimes there are bigger stories unfolding in a game.

I think its awesome, if you don't like it jump back to ABC you crusty traditionalists

They follow momentum, believe it or not sides earn the support of the commentators, if you play in a style that's entertaining or do something that's entertaining, they commentate accordingly

Not sure why it bothers people, when they get behind Carlton (like today) it adds to the game, when theyre against Carlton, its good feeling like an underdog and quietening them down when we do something good (insert that never happens joke here)

Its all part of the theatre of football, stop being PC sour pusses
