Admitted on 6pr he is a Freo fan.
His wife and daughter go to all Freo games.

Sorry, he's a member of both teams and is only a member of Freo because we're stupid to enough to hire him to host our functions. Heaven knows why when he's a flog of the highest order and speaks through that massive nose of his giving us faint praise under duress when he calls our games.

I've heard biased commentating in basketball and soccer, but never to the point where i thought it was unprofessional. A little bit of home town bias is ok, but barracking in those sports is unheard of. In afl it is the norm. It's now getting embarrassing and our standards are slipping really quickly.

I don't know about soccer, but in basketball they tend to have team commentators, such as Chuck Hearn with the Lakers back in the 80s, and there was also a guy with a shocking voice who did the Celtics games. Not sure what the go is there, but they seem to like biased commentary over there.

Eddie was the last straw for me today. He was so unbearable that for the first time ever I hit mute during a game and watched the rest with no sound.

What a revelation! Without some random boofhead constantly screaming at me I was able to enjoy each play for what it was, minus the agendas and fake drama. Football nirvana!

I briefly unmuted during the next game - long enough to hear Dermie get halfway through a 5 minute story about how a guy spoiled a ball or something - and put it straight back on mute for the rest of the game. Bliss!

Clanceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Peeeearrrrrrrrrrce.

I actually dont give a crap if the commentator is from the club least you know its bias, but when they just pick one side its annoying, mcguire on the blues, dunstall the suns today just annoying

Chick Hearn, Johnny Most? It is no longer the 1970s. NBA commentary is far more professional and unbiased these days. Puts the AFL to shame.

Listen to the Port- Bulldogs game .. all you hear from Fox commentators is Bulldogs must do this or that etc etc etc.
They just don't do commentating anymore geez
Tony Shaw is terrible. He's so out of tune with the modern game - he's 'special' comments are clueless. It's not difficult to realise what a complete dribbler he was coaching listening to his commentary

AFL commentators need to take a leaf out of EPL and cricket (the late Richie Benaud specifically) commentators and learn when to just shut the F up! The game doesn't need you.

And why are there now 8 of you talking shop each and every game. Over saturation will kill the AFL.

BT was barracking for the Hawks when we played them, from 5 minutes in to the 1st quarter.

The moment it was 3 goals to zip, all he said was "but you know the hawks are gonna come, they're a champion team and they're still right in this!"

I guess in the long run he was right, but he was speaking from an astute football mind, he was just blabbering on about the losing team and paying no respect to the team in front at the time.

Football commentary is at an all-time low at the moment! The last truly great commentator of this era was the late Clinton Grybas. He was passionate, smart, classy and most importantly balanced in his commentary. Most people didn't realise he actually passionately supported Collingwood.

Anthony Hudson is the closest commentator to resemble Clinton but sometimes Huddo does get very over the top at certain stages but you can see he loves the commentary gigs. Listening to him in 2005 Semi Final between Sydney and Geelong and Ash McGrath's kick after the siren against Geelong in 2013 you would have almost thought he wasn't a Geelong supporter for a minute.

As a Collingwood supporter I'll always naturally like Eddie but his commentary yesterday in the Carlton game was ridiculous. The man just couldn't hide his bias.

In regards to other commentators Dwayne Russell, Matthew Campbell, BT, Basil and Bruce are all shockers. Dennis Cometti is still a solid commentator but he's become a parody of himself somewhat with some of his strange catchphrases.

If only the days of when the likes of Lou Richards were commentating could be resurrected in the modern era. We need passionate but balanced commentators not a bunch of idiots in a boys club who have their own agendas and bias.

Agree with most, commentary is at an all-time low. My hates:
3. Commentating to pre-determined narratives (EFC is brave, Freo are **** hot 10-in-a-rowers on Friday)

2. Ridiculous over-adulation of players (Ling esp. needs to check himself here, Rioli mark on lead, Fyfe)

1. Campaigning for more free kicks. All. the. time. No one wants to the game over-officiated, but the TV commentators can't wait to tell you at every stoppage that so-and-so might be in trouble here, or that looked like in the in-the-back to them etc.
