I was just wondering if anyone watched the last Commetti live show?
My dad said something about paul haselby getting players of the year or something so i was just wondering if anyone can give me more info on whether this is true or what:confused:

Yes dockerbabe, its true. They had an interview with him as well, but it was pre-recorded.

By the way, he won with 21 votes, Simmonds finished second with 20, followed by Kerr with 17 IIRC.

Kool thanx for that
Did anyone watch the western front last saturday if not Matthew Pavlich and Troy simmonds won the best players award tied on 21 votes each despite ben cousins gaining the 3 votes for his last home and away game and also pavlich got 3 votes in his last game of the season

Cousins won the most important WA footy award though. The West Australian Footballer of the year award. Simmonds polling in front in both the Commeti live show and the Western Front is a joke. Simmonds had a good year for a losing side, Cousins is a brownlow favourite??

IMHO, Cousins was way more impressive last season. I really doubt we will win the brownlow this season. It wouldn't even suprise me if Kerr got more votes than him.

He got a lot more of the footy last season but that doesnt mean he had a worse year. Last year he was really the only shining light in the team...this year Kerr and Judd have been awesome in the midfield, taking disposals off him. Plus with the team winning more often then more players are highlighted to look good. When we lost all those games last year, Cousins stood out. This year other stand out because we are winning, hense taking the spotlight off Cuz.

Still should go alright in the Brownlow, I too dont think he will win but i hope he does.

You're welcome :)

Nah didn't see it, but I think both Pavlich and Simmonds will be right up there in our B&F. It will be tight between those 2, Bell and Hasleby.

Fair points Jod but I think Kerr has been equally as good as Cousins this year.

Sinc you're both awake, what are your thoughts on all those WA-based competitions that award 3, 2 & 1 votes for every game involving the Eags or Dockers? I mean there are times (let's use rd 22 as an example ;)) that one team might not deserve 6 votes, and times where a team may have earnt more than 6. In round 22, there was no way our teams played equally as good. Yet in those kinds of competitions, 6 votes were awarded to each.

As an example, if the award had been between say, West Coast & Brisbane, then Cuz would've polled 3 in most Eagles games, while the Brissie boys would have had to share the votes out.

I dunno... just doesn't seem a particularly fair way of giving away a car or whatever. Celebrating insulation in fact.

Jod I think those games in the middle of the year will come back to hurt Cousins not to mention the emergance of Kerr & Judd.

As for the Snake I think it was a very consistant year from a guy who couldn't get a start at Melbourne & I recall only twice the man lowering his colors or beaten.

Eagle_Fan I agree w/ you on there shouldn't be any charity & the games should be judged accordingly.

Yeah I think they are awarding WA's best and fairest player. The Brownlow shows which players have impact in games, while those other competitions you mentioned show how good you have been compared to the rest of your team.

The wild variations in the voting exposes any suggestions to handing over Brownlow voting to media personalities to be fraught with danger. Everyone has differing opinions.

This is the reason why the West Australian player of the year award is a much better award. Cousins plays a blinder in a win and he gets 9 votes. Plays ok in a loss and he gets maybe 6 or 5. Thats why that is the best award in WA footy and it's also closest to the mark as Cousins won this year.
