AFL Club
Adelaide
Seems the two Adelaide based teams are only separated by, 20 seconds and the AFL FIXture.

Thought the comparison between the matches in the 'all things being equal' (top table) were interesting.

Don't want to use the I word but but should be thrown into the comparison mix.

What also has to be factored in is that port apart from 1 or 2 players have been able to field virtual full strength teams every week whereas we have been decimated for most of the year. We never should have dropped the first showdown so should be level on wins with them. It says a lot about where the 2 clubs are at as they don't have much upside in terms of playing personel where we are starting to get ours back. We are a superior club full stop

Couldn't wait til you were at work tomorrow? ;)

Great analysis. Extremely similar seasons.

So we beat Geelong at home, they didn't... strikingly similar seasons otherwise

Next up is for someone to do an analysis of the injuries to both clubs

It was clear as early as the preseason that we were going to be up against it this year. Late start, too many key players with limited preseasons and some obvious mental scars from the GF.

Apart from the odd quarter, as a result, we’ve struggled to play close to our best footy. Yet, we’re still currently sitting with a winning record(9-8) and if you ignore losing 4 very winnable games in a row, we’re sitting 9-4, having beaten 3 of the current top 4 sides. Unfortunately we can’t ignore those 4 games and those 4 games have probably ruined any chance we had this season.

Apart from Richmond in Melbourne, realistically we’re not too far off any other side in the comp, our best challenges anyone, but we’re prone to playing some very average footy.

Despite the injuries and mental scars, we’ve held it together pretty well for most of the year. It’s tough to say, but we’re probably better off missing finals, at present this year looks like 2007 where it was Geelong and the rest, except this year it’s richmond and the rest. The GF could be very ugly for the team playing Richmond this year. Miss finals, have a strong preseason where we get structures right, players genuinely fit and develop a plan for Richmond.

Judging by the title I thought this was going to be a Burton V Balme thread

Thanks mate

Yeh I said at the game that it could be a real turning point in the season. Not just the result, but loosing Mitch....

I would rather a tilt at finals, but appreciate what you are saying.

Not a bad year to reset and positioning for a full blown tilt at it next year.

Like the Monfries goal of 2012 I feel us losing the Showdown this year in a collection of farcical errors is a Sliding Doors moment.

Had we won that game the club would never have had the public pressure on it to expel CM. Yes it probably costs us Finals but long term we are better off.

Much like that Monfries goal with the peculiar bounce set the fates of both Sando and Hinkley and the directions of both clubs since.

Goes to show there can be a real fine line between success and failure in sport. Had the ball bounce our way in the last minute of the Showdown, who knows where it could take us in the confidence stakes? And who knows what kind of damaging effect it could have on Port's season? The next showdown is gonna be mega big in the season's stakes!

The chicks on the hill are hotter at port games.

Strange one. Wine and cheese more healthier than frozen coke and mcnuggetts

I think the value of tables like these just shows how close a season can be and that all the huffing and puffing by both sets of supporters is just huff and puff

I wonder if somebody can factor in B22 and add that to the sim

If Dougie didn't fly into Gov at the last Showdown we'd both 10-7 with only percentage splitting us.

Plus Gov would still be playing - not missing 10 weeks would have helped as well.

Bloody Douglas with zero composure thinking Gov was going to be outmarked by Neade of all people.

Not a huge stretch on the ladder predictor to get to this

To be fair to Douglas, he was watching the ball over his shoulder and would not have had knowledge that it was Gov V Neade.

Doubt we would have lost the Freo game had Gov played.

I recall us being in a box and absolutely hammered, so you did well
