Around 2007 I have a memory of somebody trying to play on from a kick-in, falling over, and letting the other team kick an easy goal. It probably didn't happen because surely we'd have seen the replay 3000 times but in my head I've decided it was Simon Buckley.

Not the memory you're thinking of but there was the time Jayden Hunt tried to handball out of the square and Jones berated him

Oh yeah that was an ANZAC eve game i'm sure. I remember watching it live at the ground and thinking what a brain fade. I then went home to watch the replay thinking i'd see it again but 7 was like already mid replaying the point and then they never showed it so as far as i know that vision of Hunt doing it hasn't been seen.

Also remember when kick ins where a thing? It's kinda evolved funny over the years but to the point it was probably heading eventually. I was watching a 1990 game against the bombers, and the players kicked to themselves like the used, but one of our boys got penalised according to the commentary he didn't kick it up to himself far enough and than ran out, and they said it had to be like 2 meters up before you ran out. A bombers player did it earlier in the game and i thought it was unprofessionally high but it since made sense if that's the case. I could see why they hardly opted to do it much back then if that was the case with the man on the mark also a lot closer. Dear bigfooty users i'm from the 2000s where kicking to yourself any small amount was fine as long as you did kick, was required distance before then a thing?

Also players kicking to themselves on a kick in always felt like a silly loop hole. But one that made sense. I'd say i'm glad it's gone but now players can just do what they want now. It's an odd quirk i kind of miss

Also rip that rare rule of an automatic deliberate being paid if no one touched it on the kick in? I don't think that's around anymore since they tweaked it, unless idk you do it inside the square it might still trigger. I have no idea, i haven't seen one in years most times they where either out on the full or touched anyway.

I also got way off track randomly thinking about kick ins

Peter Walsh kicking a goal against Adelaide to get us a win back in about 01 or 02? It was goal for goal for a while and we pinched it.

Tom McDonald toe poke goal against the suns to win by a point.

McDonald taking about 10 contested grabs at CHB against Gold Coast in 2016.

Neitz having a blinder in the 06 EF against the Saints.

Whelan smashing Hird in the 04 EF.
