Computer Problem

Hey, I was wondering if someone out there could help me. I have a frustrating problem with my computer. It allows me to be on the internet for 10 minutes at a time before not allowing me to access any web pages from my browser. The wonderfule "Web page could not be found" message appears in place of the website I was after. Occasionally for no known reason at all Microsoft explorer and outlook express will crash my computer so it is unusable...it even gets rid of the tool bar along the bottom of the computer, u know with the start button, the quick icon for certain programs!

Whenever I start up my computer I also get an error message saying W J View error: main could not be found. What the hells with that?!!

Does someone know what is going on? Can someone help me?

It sounds like you removed a program that used WJVIEW.

Go into regedit (start/run/regedit) then navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Look for a program with the command WJVIEW and delete it.
If the program that used it is still there, uninstall it.

Thanks for that. That has fixed up the WJView error, however still seem to have limited time on the internet before my explorer no longer accesses web pages and outlook express can't send and recieve emails.

Any suggestions on that one?

Which windows, IE version and type of internet connection?

Do you still have a connection when you can't access pages?

Who is your ISP? ( eg: bigpond ...iinet...dodo ) and has this happened before?

I am using windows 98, I have Microsoft Explorer 5.5 and I am with Bigpond dialup. This has only happened over the last 2 weeks or so, but it happens after about 10 minutes every time I connect to the net.

I am still connected when this happens however cannot open anything new. all msn chat boxes that are open still work however I cannot start to chat with a new person once this happens. When I try to start irc up and this crash has occured, it won't connect me saying that "no buffer space is available"

Sounds like a lack of RAM, or too many programs running.

Uninstall Webshots, Bonzi Buddy, whatever other things like that you've got.
Run AdAware.

Buy more RAM.

ring bigpond and get them to go through your dial up settings and update your MS explorer

Im pretty sure a mate of mines net did the same thing, she would log on and stay on for about 10 minutes and then web pages wood not open etc, this also denied her access to MSN, my best bet is to go to the computuer shop and get it fixed coz it sounds like you have a virus simalar to her...

"housecall" is an on-line virus check. Find it via google.

Ok, I did the virus scan thing and it found 2 infected files. They were infected with a virus called downloader.small . I have got rid of the virus (I hope) but am having a lot more trouble with explorer crashing and especially outlook express. Whats my next move?

Run ie repair.
Start/run/settings/add/remove software/ ie repair.
