To all you Cats fans.
A season that started so promisingly ended in the cruellest way imaginable.
One or two more seconds...Could only feel for you.
We didn't have sound on the tv at the office and I thought you'd actually won for a few seconds.
Hope you bounce back next year!

Hahaha, yeah i wish we hadnt of heard it at the ground either!! Have another scandal like "Freo-gate" :D

Anyway, ta for ya condolences.. anyway even if the Bulldogs had have lost to the Bombers, we would have had to beat Hawthorn by something like 69,000 points to make up the percentage!! :D

Heres to next year and Tom Hawkins :thumbsu:

Don't worry Cats fans, theres always next year (sounds familiar doesn't it!!). Lets face it, not good enough & too soft. Didn't deserve to make the finals! Oh well, always got the Wizard Cup flag 2006 to celebrate!

Out of all the teams playing finals the one side im confident will bomb in in the first round is the bulldogs.

At least we are playing in September!!!!! (Made it with 5 players from our best 22 with season ending injuries I might add!) See you next year Cats!!!
And when you had all those players in you only beat us by a point.

FYI 1 premiership cup and 2 pre-season cups in the last 50 years > dust. You must be happy it only took your team 6 years to make the finals again.

I don't like it but the bottom line is the Dogs have made it and we haven't, they deserve it and we don't, they took their chances and we blew ours.
I'd rather see the Bulldogs win the flag than West Coast, Adelaide or Collingwood.

Go the Dockers!!!!

I'll be cheering for the dogs in the finals. Don't even bother trying to argue about how 1963 is more recent than 1954 which means we have more to be happier about. Focus your anger on Thompson, there's the reason we won't see another flag for a long time. The window was wide open for us over the last few years and he led us into a brick wall.

Oh dear!

You think our problems are all Thompson's...

Now we know who is accepting mediocrity.

Why is it always Bomber's fault? He isn't on the ground kicking the ball straight to the opposition or ignoring the game plan. The coach can only do so much. The on-field performance, or lack of it, is as much the players' fault as it is the coach's. All I know is when Thompson, Cook and Costa took over in 1999, the club was a basket case. Not only did these 3 men drag the club out of debt, but they have basically reformed the playing list.

I have been a member for about 15 years, and a supporter for 30 (in other words, all my life) and I don't think I've been as excited and optimistic as I have been since 2002 when Bartel, Ablett and co. have been drafted. Geelong has not had the luxury of a St.Kilda or a Hawthorn or a Fremantle to rebuild their list from draft picks in the top 5. In fact, Geelong has been the only team in the league that HAS NOT finished in the bottom four since the league went national in 1987.

I've been as disappointed as much as the next person about all the disappointing performances Geelong have dished up, but let's put things into perspective. We're complaining about a poor season, and we're going to finish either 9th or 10th. All this anti-Thompson sentiment makes it seem like we're going to finish on the bottom of the ladder by a mile. A few players may not be fit, a few players have had poor seasons, but after one full pre-season with our new fitness coach, the arrival of Tom Hawkins and some good astute drafting of some talented, exciting youngsters, it looks like a great 2007 coming up, hopefully with Bomber at the helm.

You don't know what mediocrity means do you?

Keep on embracing mediocrity though :thumbsu:

Gee, why doesn't that surprise me? :p

So if you agree with nothing I said, then you must believe Geelong was flying in 2000 when Thompson took over and we were debt free etc, etc. Which in turn means you were accepting mediocrity years ago. :p

But seriously, where in my previous post did I say I embraced mediocrity?

I think it's s*** how the season has turned out and I'm NOT happy! I blame Thompson for a whole big chunk of it because ultimately he is the one who makes the final decisions. BUT lots of it rests with the players themselves. I'm giving Thompson 1 more year. His got us this far (well it may not seem that far atm but it was far last year LOL).

LMAO Numbnuts. You blokes will be out in week one. Oh well, you've still got that 1954 cup to celebrate.

This season has been nothing short of a disaster. And I'll tell you why it's Bomber's fault - as far as the football team goes he's the boss. It's this strange concept called responsibility. It comes hand in hand with a fat salary and very little criticism.

Thompson selects the side, so lazy players like Kelly and Kingsley being there is his fault. Thompson oversees player fitness, so if players are not 100% by round 1 it is his fault. And the appalling game plan that was used early in the season is his fault also.

I've left out very weak excuses after hideous losses ("Gee, weren't Adelaide great"), refusing to learn from mistakes (not watching the Collingwood and Adelaide hidings to correct faults), and incompetent support staff.

The fact is the senior coach is the man responsible. The question is - is he man enough and responsible enough to accept the blame?

NO!! Ulitmately it is the members who determine the fate of the club, by voting in the board etc. who make the decision on the coaching staff.

Likewise for our poor renegade (who by your picture is obviously a left-wing Bush-hater who's lot in life is to complain about everything and acutally DO nothing), it is not the President or the Prime Ministers fault... it's the people who voted them in!!
So, Thompson is doing the best job he can... and if you don't think it's good enough, as a member, why don't you firstly accept some of the blame, and then have a think about what you can do about it, rather than whinging and moaning all the time and p***ing people off!

I came on to this forum only about 3 weeks ago... and of all the posts by renegade, over 90% would be complaining and blaming Thompson, EVEN WHEN THE TOPIC ISN'T ABOUT HIM, or coaching etc.

Hahaha, you're quite the observant one there Cats in Sydaney!! :D

You would have really impressed had you said "90% would be complaining and blaming Thompson.. and the other 10% kissing Josh Hunts butt" ;)

Its hardly Thompson's doing.

Geelong have a very young squad who are still developing. You're only 1/2 a game off the same position last year and have scored some good scalps this season (Syd, Dogs, Freo) and have been within a kick with many more.

The preseason victory, while spirit lifting, IMO took a bit of wind out of the sails.

Next year I'm tipping Geelong to be positioned around 5th-6th.

Everyone agrees that the NAB Cup is not the same thing as the season proper. But surely it's better to win it than not. Winning is a culture and enough of it becomes habitual. I would have thought a Hawthorn supporter would agree with that. Not to mention the extra $220 grand in the coffers. Besides, they won their first 2 home and away games in style. The NAB Cup was NOT the reason for the decline.

And it is Thompson's fault - he's the boss.

You're right about the importance of instilling a winning culture into the team. All the talk of tanking at the end of the season to gain an extra place up in the draft picks is a rediculous idea. Winning, whether its the NAB cup or not is important for player development and the supporters and the sponsorship dollars.

The point I was making is that you have all the euphoria of winning the pre-season flowing over into the season proper, maybe as a distraction. It was a point made on SEN at the start of the year with the arguement of whether winning the pre-season is a good thing or not.
