Coney confirms move to Swans
TYRONE minor star Kyle Coney has confirmed he is headed to the Australian Football League next month, despite efforts to keep the All-Ireland winner at home.
After Tyrone's replay victory over Mayo, when Coney scored five points from play, it was heavily rumoured the Ardboe youngster was rethinking an offer of a two-year contract with the Sydney Swans.
But Coney (18) says he is not for turning. Speculation that he might change his mind increased when Tyrone senior star Sean Cavanagh revealed that Coney's parents had asked him to try to persuade their son not to go to Australia.
But even Cavanagh's advice has not changed his mind.
"There are no major second thoughts," Coney said. "That was just me and him talking."
Tyrone chairman Pat Darcy said: "It's a big loss for Tyrone but we have to think of Kyle and I respect his decision and wish him every success."
