I think we were also gunning for Walker from Carlton with HArbrows compo, and he was keen, but reluctantly stayed with the blues when the deal didnt go through, for whatever reason.

We were trying to trade Josh Hill to Hawthorn, but they were dicking us around, we needed that pick to ontrade for Walker from Carlton. That is why the dogs were so outraged that with 5 minutes to go on the clock Hawthorn finally offered us the pick we wanted. It was Pelchen who has now gone to St Kilda, glad the Eagles didn't cave in to his dubious tactics.

We wanted a top 20 pick from them, they offered something around 30ish and we were offended? Looking back on it now who were the fools here? Hawthorn or Us?

They did offer us the pick we wanted but we didn't have time to clinch the Walker trade. They stuffed us up so we responded. Why should Hawthorn get it easy when they made it hard for us?

Every club makes mistakes and we're no different, It's easy to finger point after the fact and look for someone to blame but reality is every pick carries an element of risk. I think the club should be commended for pulling the trigger a year early, cutting our losses and moving on...

Actually DW, I think, and you probably do too, that there's light at the end of the tunnel (not oncoming train). In this case, getting rid of him now is absolutely the right thing to do. It's nothing personal against Sherman but rather frustration that we are still paying for the short sightedness of the lunatics running the asylum a couple of years ago. And I hope that the club is ruthless in getting rid of those responsible if they are either still there or unable to change/learn.
Are these the same lunatics that got the club into 3 prelims in a row a couple of years ago???

I cant believe this club has stuffed up the Harbrow compensation pick in this manner. Not only did we lose a damn good player to the Gold Coast leeches, but we have now received absolutely no gain from l
him going. Who was the recruiting manager that carried out this trade??? (Simon Dalrymple?) .... I think he is still employed by the club.

It he was in the corporate world, he would have been sacked for this imcompetant ustilisation of assets .... and waste of money and potential talented player to comensate the club for the loss of Harbrow!

The club should pay for this as I am sick of sitting back watching us wastfully stuff around with the funds that us members faithfull outlay each year. Plus, I am sick and tired of hearing the mantra that "those people are gone now and we are heading in another direction"!
Decisions regarding trades are driven by the coach and match committee.

just because i stick up for my own does not make me any different from all of you

Yes that is understood but sometimes you can't stick up for someone, no matter how much you love them.

What is your honest opinion on all this?

why are all so down on me i am and have been for many years a bulldogs supporter just because i stick up for my own does not make me any different from all of you
To be honest granny I don't think anyone is down on you (perhaps I missed something?) If anything there's a good deal of sympathy.

Justin would no doubt be disappointed the way things turned out, as are the supporters. He could have - should have - been able to give us more. We're mystified why it didn't work out and of course upset that we ended up getting so little return for the first round compo pick, but that's water under the bridge now.

I admit to being opposed to the trade in the first place but once he was wearing our colours we all wanted him to do well.

i am very disappointed that things did not work out for justin but he has had a lot to deal with this year besides his ugly slur but what makes me angry is why the same thing said to awhite player is not ruled as being the same

Poor granny, hope your grandson works out at another club. Hopefully BF'ers wont heckle you with PM's like what TheBrownDog did when he left the lions.

We traded for Sherman, DJ and Ves all at the same time. Sherman was clearly the best at the time yet he simple didn't deliver or work hard enough. DJ is also gone and Ves wont make it either. Just highlights most of the fringe player trades don't work, expect about a 1 in 3 hit rate. Add some bad drafting that same year in going Howard so early at 15 it really was a bad recruiting time.

He's a victim of the injury issues in 2011 and the new coach in 2012. He's a good finisher but needs quality around him so he was OK in his first year but asked to do a different job by the new regime. Maybe in 5 years time when Terry Wallace is reappointed as coach, it'll take him a couple of years to get rid of all the mid 20s monsters who can't kick and replace them with slimmer speedsters with superb kicking skills.

If you are seriously bewildered by this, you need to think a bit harder.

Because it isn't the same. Being called a wog isn't the same, that word has become a matter of pride. Being called a chink/slope isn't the same, in time it will, too. Black people in general and Australian Aboriginals in particular suffer in ways that white people, particularly those whose ancestors came from the British Isles, cannot imagine. From first settlement, to be black was to be no more deserving than an animal. It is within the lifetimes of many posters that the Aborigines became entitled to vote, now it is not uncommon to encounter aborigines in higher education and they are grossly over represented in the AFL. An increasing number of aborigines are taking their place in society but the majority still aren’t given a fair go and won’t be until they are afforded respect and acceptance, not for academic orientation and athletic ability, but for their culture and as worthwhile persons in their own rights. The normalisation of the word "wog" took a couple of generations, the abhorrent words used for a black person have been used for centuries and have still not become normalised. One of the few good things the AFL has done has been to accept that and it has an admirable no tolerence policy. Justin isn't an evil person, on the contrary, from what I've heard, he's probably one of the more decent blokes in football. He, like all of us, has to dispel the notion from his consciousness that blackness is an opportunity for insult. He, like all of us, has to learn the extent of extraordinary hurt and damage that racial abuse has on black people.

I hope my response has been respectful to you. You are one of us, you are entitled to be given a response and an explanation in a respectful manner.

Very succinct, wel said :thumbsu:

Wise move in cutting ties with Sherman and it just didn't work out ( not the first time trades have gone sour for us, but we're used to it.. )

Hope he gets a gig elsewhere but I'm not sure how a player who was rated played so poorly for us. Was it our club, was he really just bad?

In the end we wasted a number of picks in that same era
- Sherman
- djerkurra
- Barlow

I hope this club is serious about turning around it's drafting policy and recruiting players who will deliver.

I hope no one is down on you granny and I haven't seen evidence of it. I am sorry things didn't work out between the club and Justin. I was hoping they would as he possessed some skills that were needed. Also sticking up for your own is a quality WB fans admire so good on you for that. I wish Justin all the best at his new club.

What bewilders me is how Anthony Mundine can say the things he recently said and escape any criticism at all.

Speaks strongly of the club. I feel much better about the club and BMac's vision. It shows the clear direction we're going in. Anyway, I always thought we were soft on the delistings. Many players (such as Stack) stayed on our list for too long. Good poker players know when to fold. Every position on our list is precious and shouldn't be wasted.

Every spot on the list should be precious.
Yeh lets replace him with guns like Young, Bate or Prismall.

And to everyone bagging his character - I hope you do not clap or cheer Will Minson this year who has made a similar mistake twice now, or will be massive fans of Libba whose character can be questioned for other reasons. How many of your stood and applauded Barry Hall when he was at the club - while his character may be different physically made a lot of mistakes.

At least be consistent with your assessments of players and don't buy into the spin put out there by the club or only overlook "character" for those players who are decent footballers !!

Not saying Sherman should still be on the list. But cannot understand how these "positive plus" posters can be happy Sherman was shown the door based on character then not have the same rules applied to other players.... OR applaud shermans delisting cause he is hack and then applaud the signings or interest in some players going around. Be consistent with your judgements PLEASE!
