To Fiora, Gwilt and McQualter go my greatest congratulations. Stood up when the game was going against us and should have sealed their spot for next week. Especially Fiora, who didn't look soft at all and looked up to speed with the game. He usually looks lost but yesterday was very, very good.

Yep, totally agree. Without Gwiltys 2 goals and Fioras 2 goals we would be in deep shit right now. And mcQualter, he has improved alot since his first couple of years at the club. Starting to really cement his place in the 22. :thumbsu:

Couldn't agree more.

Really starting to like the way Mini goes about it, plays with a lot of courage for a bloke his size.

I like Mini, he tackled really well yesterday. I mean he didn't get all that many cheap kicks but he laid 7 tackles i think it was. Great effort (hear that Dal Santo?). Gwilt and Fiora have had a good game, well done, but i highly doubt they'll repeat their efforts. I'd like to see them dropped and Geary stay in the side while Armo and Birss get a go. Looking very unlikely however.

Sorry, but asking for two of our best on Sunday to be dropped because you "highly doubt they'll repeat their efforts" falls into the "let's trade Hayes because is over 26 years old" category !

Piss off Holden, i wouldn't trade Hayes if my life depended on it. Have u got any idea how much we'd get killed in the clearances if it wasn't for Hayes? He's like our Simon Black. So important. Haven't u noticed every time Hayes gets shut down we seem to lose or play badly? You know why? That's because he's our #1 onballer and has been for the past 4 years. You watch Holden, if they repeat that for the rest of the year i'll take myself off the board.

I think McQualter will be on our senior list next year. Derserves to be promoted off the rookie list, as his form has been consistent during the last 5-6 weeks. Has done some very good tagging jobs.

Very much enjoyed Mini's game.

What I would say though is that people again have overlooked the efforts of the (it seems) much-maligned Sean Dempster. DJ again did the job on a dangerous opposition player (other roles included Nick Stevens, Cyril Rioli, Wonaemirri, Lindsay Thomas etc).

Burgoyne has flogged us in previous games, and to keep him to 9 kicks and no score assists was another fine effort. The only goal that Burgoyne got should have been a free to Dempster for pulling him off the ball via a handfull of jumper.

Saints fans need to get on board with this bloke. He has been a good acquisition.

Excellent point Squizz. I think we've fallen into the trap with Dempster that other teams do with Maxy. He's there to shut down players, and so we don't notice him. He's not so much doing something as he's stopping others from doing what they do in the forward line.

I think our future prospects for backs don't look too bad.
If McGuire can return to form.
Attard as a reasonably tall option.
Gilbert improving.
Dempster as stated.
We are starting to look Ok - remebering that Max will retire one day, and we may be able to get the likes of Gram and Fisher further forward where they can do more damage.
Silvagni - possible rookie?

No problem with him shutting down players. It's his kicking that is terrible.

I think it is fair to say we have turned a corner as a playing group.
6 months ago we would have let port steam roll over us.
but like the North and Freo game we dug deep and managed to get out of jail.
Now for the next 4 weeks every player has to fight tooth and nain for the ball.
C'mon sainters dig deep for all the faithful out there.
Fans - get to the game and will our boys to the finals.

We have actually turned 180 degrees. Instead of playing great at the start then fading away to nothing , we are in danger of getting so far behind that our strong finish is not enough to get us over the line. At least this way the players know what is needed to win.

Needs work - no doubt.

But the Saints' kicking efficiency on the weekend was almost as bad as its been all year (across the board problem).

At least Dempster has consistently been doing the task allocated.
