Even if he hasn't been playing?

Ha ha, that probably wont stop them.

Noticed that Roo and Richardson had McPharlin as FB in their mid-season AA teams on the weekend when asked. Riewoldt would have a pretty good idea of what makes a good backman, so I guess he's getting some recognition over there.

Surely one of the most underrated players in the AFL, as our Richmond guest just aptly demonstrated.

I'm actually staggered that he isn't rated more highly, it's not like he's a dour defender who flies under the radar while shutting down his opponent every week. He's a genuinely classy, athletic footballer who attacks as well as he defends and who is one of the strongest aerialists in the comp. He would have been the perfect backman back in the days when KPP's tried to take one on one hangers over each other every time the ball came near them.

Yet despite his flair he very, very rarely gets beaten. Reid getting a hold of him in the first half in Sydney is the only time this year I can remember an opponent getting the best of him. Victorian fans roll their eyes whenever we say this, but he would have a couple of AA's already and would be rated twice as highly if he's spent his career at one of the big clubs over there.

^^^^ yep :thumbsu:

Dont worry.. Scarlett has one position wrapped up as per usual (hasnt played on a number forward in about 5 years)... Lake will probably get the other as he is having a Renaissance season.

At least he should win the Doig as a "Consolation" prize

Then again.. he's no Alex Rance

Oh yes, don't bring Alex Rance into it. I'll grant Rance is having a good season, but he wouldn't be worth Elvis' boot strap. He's so over-rated when compared to a long term proven gun like McPharlin. If there was ever an example of how Vic centered the hype around players is then that would be it.

Must be a chance this year to be all-Australian CHB.
Only a chance when we do well for the rest of the season and make finals...

Think he played to much swingman to grap a position in earlier days...

Geez Elvis has been good.

Remember when we recruited him from the Poos & Wees, lot's of punters reckoned he was a broken down hack who would never realise much potential. A year or two later his body settled down and now all is history.

Remember, he is the big positive side of the Number 1 draft pick trade. That trade was not all negative to Freo.

I am hoping, as he bloody kept growing for so long, that he will play for a lot longer. Looks that way to me. Hoping to get similar years as Fletcher from you Luke!
Similar attributes in ability to read the play, take a grab (much better), and have time and composure.

He has been one of these players that are so good at their role they get swung forward as a fix, then it does not do enough to justify the giant hole left.

When you are in the team Luke, I sleep better at night, so I thank you for that. Just take another hang for us Luke.

Lets have a look at how the top 3 contenders for the Coleman medal fared against Elvis when they played against the Dockers this year:

1. Buddy Franklin (Hawthorn) 1 goal
2. Jack Riewoldt (Richmond) 1 goal
3. Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda) 1 goal (Luke also held Nick goalless twice last year)

Add to that he kept Jonathon Brown to zero goals and about 3 touches when we played Brisbane earlier this year and the lack of Luke Skywalker love from the east coast is getting hard to understand.

Congratulation Luke - a fine effort from a talented, humble, hard working and clean-playing champion.
I only hope he marks the occasion with a big speccie or one of those tuck-the-ball-under-the-arm-pin-the-ears-back-and-hit-the-afterburners runs from half-back.

Failing that, I'll take a Freo win ;)

Do you watch him week after week, he is well on his way to being an elite backman, France is going to be awesome.

I'd be keeping a close eye on his bond rates, if they near 7% he may be in trouble
