The standout tactic (or lack of) in Connolly's coaching on Saturday was his apparent lack of discipline, which probably resulted in Farmer getting 3 weeks. About 10 minutes before, he was obviously getting hot under the collar, he gave away an idiotic 50m penalty (despite the umpire's calls of 'Get away from it Jeff') yet something as juvenile and moronic as that did not bring the instant reaction from the coach to get him off the ground, if for no other reason than to cool off.

Even when he belted Primus, Connolly still left him on, risking him belting someone else in the head and copping another suspension.

Call me a cynic (which I am after 7 years of mostly rubbish being served up) but already Connolly's coaching is bloody frightening.

i also hope he's not going to leave Clive either in the goalsquare or on the bench.

Thats exactly what i was thinking.
You could see farmer about to explode why wasnt he dragged imediately.
On the waterhouse issue, its my opinion he should never be taken off, unless for disciplinary reasons.
He is a impact player and usually is only on song for about 10 mins. You never know when these 3 goals in 10 mins are going to happen so its always an idea to keep him on.Plus he is a target and always gets his hands to the ball.

New coach and coaching staff. New players... Five quarters of Pre-season football before that incident occured. He dragged Cook the moment he was booked for touching Smith.

I think everything will settle into place soon enough. It's all easy with the benefit of hindsight...I am sure Sausage Rolls and his people have reviewed the matter and taken on board what resulted.

Hopefully the 3 week "holiday" will send some sort of message to Farmer - and more forcibly than Connolly could ever have done by simply dragging him.

Is there a "games missed through suspension" clause in Farmers contract?

Come on give him a break you guys. Chris is only new to the job. If you think you can do a better job put your resume in. I don't think that you would have the skills to coach an AFL club.

Suzi your talking sense !!!.

Give the guy a fair go as it is only pre-season, errors are made with all the trying of players.

Fair enough

Geez, that's as bad as "you can't comment, you've never played"

Isn't it Farmer's fault, not Connelly's?

The player must be responsible for his own actions and the coach must have enough faith in the player (Woosha-style) to trust him to control himself, thus leading over time to greater risk-taking and rewards.

I didn't think it was bad coaching - I did think it was bad play.

I couldnt agree more with you there champ - what is the world coming to?

How the heck can connelly be blamed for the indescretion of the player?

Is it to much to ask to SUPPORT the coach in his new job?

Disappointing, guys.

No one is blaming him.
My point is after that 50 meter penalty, it was obvious he was about to explode. Not to mention conolly sending a message to the kids that the kind of actions where not on.
Conolly is not to be blamed for this, but he should have disciplined farmer and benched him.
The likes of sheedy would not have stood for that 50 meter penalty.

ummm, after just watching the replay....Farmer gave away the 50 right at the end of the first quarter...probably 1:30 left in the quarter. So for all everyone knows Connoly did plan to drag Farmer. He would of talked to him at 1/4 time. He thumped Primus about 4 1/2 playing minutes (taking away the 3-4 minutes for the stretcher) into the second quarter. So what do you do? Take Farmer off for the whole game because of a 50 so he doesnt do anything else stupid? Or talk to him at 1/4 time and attempt to get him to grow up?

I think you guys might be being a tad harsh on Connoly

great Call Macca...

as i said earlier.... i find it had for people to determine a new coaches coaching style after 5 quarters of pre-season footy.

i think he will prove to be a great asset to the club... as will Jeff from Round 3 onwards.

Speaking personally, i'm not saying he's a useless coach, or that his style is terrible, or that the 11 goal loss was his fault.

My point was that it's pretty bloody frustrating to see a player like Farmer obviously riled up left on the ground, when Mikhail Gorbachev could have seen that he was way too hot under the collar and needed a few minutes on the bench to settle him down. You simply can't do that with Farmer, he is just too unpredictable.

he did it 1:30 from the end of the 1st quarter. Farmer had a 10 minute quarter time break to cool down.

Don't blame CC

Surely I am not seeing right, bagging the coach so soon into the season.Geez get a life you people.CC can not be blamed for Farmers total lack of discipline. This is a guy of 24 who is on $400,000 a year and can't put two and two together.Hot head or not,is the only way he is going to learn to be disciplined by being suspended???
