Seem's we're still experiencing the impact of the Connolly/Schwab era.

Johnson the headline act for players with potential but lacking heart, Ibbotson put's up a strong support role for this as well.

Schammer/Hinkley and a swagger of former players either not on the list or stuck in the WAFL and unlikely to return

I strongly believe that had Harvey not taken over Mundy would be in a similar situation to Johnson as well.

I'll give credit to Connolly for persisting with Sandilands but Barlow/Hill/Fyfe/McPharlin down back/Broughton etc is all Harvey and work done to pick the club off the ground

Any talk of

1. Harvey's job been on the line
2. Comparison with our side under Connolly or any time before then

Is absolute rubbish

I agree with #1 but I think the loss yesterday has a direct line back into the Connolly / Schwab era of performances. It may be even further beyond that.

Harveys job is safe for this season and into next. If Fremantle fail to make the 8 this year the conjecture will start and if that follows up with a below par beginning to next season the talk would start to get louder. If Fremantle are still underperforming (defined as not going to make the 8) towards end of next season Id say he would be heading for a firing squad.

I'm not completely sure I agree with here. I've seen you post this a couple of times but I think there may be parallels much as I hate to think it.

This would have to be the best squad we have ever assembled at Freo. I'm sure you'd agree with that.

As a group, its the best coaching staff we've had down there and I know you think that also. But I think there are problems with that group and I'll come back to that.

The games against Richmond, WC, St Kilda showed a fair lack of endeavour which was a strong characteristic of the years under Connolly. he final quarter yesterday showed a total lack of endeavour from most. The fact that it still can happen concerns me.

We've had a massive cleanout but we haven't eliminated that attitude completely. As for Schammer, I love that guy's efforts. He will never be a good player but you can never fault his efforts. I only wish we could transplant his attitude into a couple of others with better skills. (MJ being one)

As for the coaching group. We lost Chris Scott and didn't replace him. That was a mistake in my view. Promoting Lloyd into a Asst. Coach role stretches him when he was doing a superb job with the recruits. We should have left him to concentrate on what he was doing and recruited a replacement for Scott. I'm sheeting that one back onto the admin, who seemed to forget about the football and have their attention solely on the rebranding (another clusterf*** in my view) I think you are overlooking what a big loss, Scott actually was.

I also have doubts about how well Harvey deals with players and I think the Palmer business is reflective of that (my view) but I have also heard that the players regard losing Scott as a huge negative.

It will be interesting to see what attitude is displayed over the next 4 games but I'm not as optimistic as some on here.

You're looking at it the wrong way.
It's more to do with Palmer wanting smoke blown up his jacksy...IMO.

And the re-signing of 5 players and the long term signings of Pav and Mundy and Duffield reflect that.

I was also pleased at those re-signings. Frankly, nothing short of excellent.

I'm not sure about the comments regarding Palmer's attitude.

Even if that was true, do you really think that playing him the way Harvey has been is the best way to manage an attitude problem? If Palmer's attitude is that bad, leave him at East Freo (which is where I should be)

Playing him as a sub, out of position and effectively not allowing the team to get full benefit from him is utterly strange to me. If it because there is a clash between the two, for whatever reason, allowing your personal feelings to affect the team is unprofessional (Note: I said if)

If he has signed with GWS (he's repeatedly stated he hasn't) then get the best out of him for this year and benefit the team.

If its something else, I still say, let the team get the benefit. GAj came out this year and said the clash with Thomson helped make up his mind to leave and while I'm sure the 5 Mill might have helped, I don't want us losing players for the same reason.

I'm sure you feel the same way.

QUOTE]

Thorougly agree that have taken Lloyd out from what he was doing very - ie fast tracking the youngsters. also michael prior was also promoted out of the dockers academy. don't forget we have lost Wallis as well.

we had harvey, scott, wallis, mitchell and todd curley(assisting mitchell)
we now have harvey, mitchell, curley, prior & Lloyd.

jason McCathey and the Oakleigh Charges U'18's 2011 coach have joibned the academy.

we have lost quality in the coaching dept. need to bolster this as mitchell will follow son to sydeny in 2012.

maybe we can throw some money at scotty watters?
