I'm starting to subscribe to a conspiracy theory here...

I'm all set to add Ryley Dunn to my list of favourite Freo players - a list which includes Polly and McPharlin, Pav and Hase....

Look closely and see what it is that young Ryley Dunn-good shares with these exciting young footballers.

OK - if you're not sure I'll tell you... he is now a Shark.... :(

What's going on?? I grew up comfortable in the knowledge that red + white = good, blue + white = bad. It was my childhood mantra - it was everything that was good and right in the world. Bulldogs good, Old Easts bad.

Now of course I have expanded my horizons and tolerate the mob across the highway as a necessary, if unpleasant, part of Freo's footballing heritage. In order for red to become purple, one needs to add blue, so for the most part, the Gummies are bearable. I teach my children a new mantra: Purple good, Ochre bad. Dockers rule, Eagles suck.

But this conspiracy thing is getting a bit scary. Why are all my favoured Freo boys from across the highway (or been placed there by some weirdo WAFL thing called a draft)? What's with all this East Freo influence in my life?? Conspiracy I tell ya.

My pain can only be exacerbated by the defection of my son to being a Gummy supporter. At the tender age of 4, I took him to a derby at Freo Oval, resplendant in his red and white shirt and we practiced "Carn Souths" all the way in the car. Old Easts were copping a beating that day and I never considered that he would be remotely interested in "crossing over" - what 4 year old wants to support a bunch of losers? (I shall duly elect to not mention the fact that this was in 2001... :( ).

By the half-time he was calling out "Go Sharks", and by 5pm he had been completely converted (despite the 10 goal shellacking) and remains a dedicated Sharks fan to this day (and beyond no doubt).

No question - it's a conspiracy....

As a responsible parent you wouldn't have let the toddler cross over, even entertain that thought IP. 5 smacks would have been sufficient enough.

The dockers have to protct the stars by putting them somewhere where they will thrive and not wilt. ;) Makes perfect sense to put the "Stars" at the sharks where the culture of success will rub off. ;)

We have to get that Staker fellow out of there though because after most of a season at the sharks he started to look a bit like a footballer. Luckily He got promoted and slipped back a bit. ;)

You won't want to take him to a Derby then.
Won't be long and he will be screaming for the Eagles. ;)

By the way, the last scratch match made my son realise he is an Eagles fan. The boy has some sense after all.

Response from son (who is now 7):

"Hmmph - do you think that will ever happen??? No way. Hate 'em. They suck."

BTW - won't be long before your kid realises the errors of his ways and returns to the purple. You'll be wiping that smug smile off your face when that happens Streaker.

Good stuff, keep telling him the Eagles suck. ;)

He'll be a Eagle supporter before he's 10.

My name is Stefan and I want to tell you to stop saying these rubbish things. I will never be an Eagles supporter. No way.:p

(Stop it Streaker, Milko, EKA... you are seriously disturbing my boy and he's not happy. He wants to know why grown-ups enjoy teasing him. He wants me to tell you that he will always go for the Dockers, and to please grow up and leave him alone. So pick on someone your own size.... Although being the no-brain bully boys that you are, I don't expect you to comprehend the psychological damage you are inflicting on a poor innocent 7 year old....)

And one more thing from me. Yes I do go for the Sharks, they are much better than the Bulldogs. But at least they are a Freo team. Not like the stupid Wet Toast Weevils. I even like the Bulldogs much better than Wet Toast cos they are Freo too.

:D

(He likes these smileys!!)

Well Stefan, I have one thing to say to you. All those mean E-girls boys are really jealous that they can't support the dockers openly as their buddies on the E-girls board will tease them.

Cheers, Go the Sharks, ;)

Dear Stefan,

red and white lollies taste better than blue and white lollies. Also, if a shark and a bulldog were to get into a fight, the bulldog would win by biting off it's fins and tail.

Mummy is right when it comes to going for the Bulldogs! Dockers are OK, but Eagles are better. :D

Have a nice day Stefan,

your South Fremantle friend, Dasler

I wasn't trying to tease you at all Stefan, I think you've made a fine choice with the Sharks. Just remember though, you don't have to support the Dockers just because you're from Freo, and if you ever decide to change to the Eagles, you'll always be very welcome. (Then you can join in when we tease the funny purple people). ;)

The direction of traffic is only ever one way, and that aint Freo to weevils.

But I'll pass on your sentiments to my boy Milko. I have no doubt that they'll be met with the scorn and derision that they deserve. Can't blame you for trying though - the traffic from your lot to Freo is getting heavier each day.

I believe kids should be given the best opportunities in life, too many are resorting to a life of purple.

And there would be no Dorkers on our board now would there?

Well the fun and games are over and the serious stuff is about to begin so I shall vacate and leave you to your delusional lifestyle in lavender wonderland. Your son doesn't need to be bullied and brainwashed by us as it seems his mother has done enough of that already. When he has worked through his issues with a good Psychologist you can tell him to give Uncle Streaker a call and I will show him the promised land, where the Premierships and final appearances run free. Where champions are born and given scope for growth rather than stifled and bound to a life of growing moustaches for amusement.

Farewell and Good Luck (until Derby time)

If my trolling saves just one child from the downward spiral of floating anchors and goon, it'll all be worth it.

This from someone who's clubs captain hits the news for having facial fuzz....

At least our blokes take part in a bit of friendly rivalry instead of beating each other up at night clubs.. That's real healthy.

My son has enough strength opf character to follow his heart and stick with his choices.

Your boy...

Dad is a weevil so I might be too.

Oh no now I like Freo.

"No son - you are never to wear a Freo jumper in my house... come to watch the eagles with me"

OK - now I like the eagles again.

Hmmmm... who's being bullied and brainwashed???

Ok I've had enough of being precious. You blokes have pushed a normally level-headed and sensible woman almost to the edge. I challenge you all to a fight. I'll meet you outside Gate 8 on the day of the first derby - one hour before bouncedown. You'll know me cos I'll be wearing a red t-shirt.

:p

What would any rational observer make of three grown men, calling themselves Dasler, Milkman and Uncle Streaker, seeking to lure and cajole a young boy over to their way of thinking? One of them even offered smack ferchrissakes.

My suspicions are confirmed more and more every day. Keep your children away from these freaks. They are unnatural and perverted. Sick troublemonkeys.

If you can't psychologically manipulate your own kids where's the fun in having them in the first place.

My boy is a rabid Eagles / Cardies fan and has been from birth. While I may have had a hand in his development - a little prod here, a bit of encouragement there, he is a self made 7yo with outstanding football nous and is the apple of his father's eye.

If you give me the child until he is seven, I'll give you the hardcore Eagles fan for life.
