Given that CC's stocks as a Coach are rising with every win, at what point should negotiations on CC's contract take place;

1) After the finals if we do well, and win a final.

2) After round 6 next year if we don't win a final but are looking good at that time.

3) At the midyear break 2007 depending on how we are travelling.

4) At the end of year depending on how we are travelling.

For me, option 1) and 2) are the go. I can see quite a few clubs looking for a new coach in the next 3-15 months, and very few experienced coaches with a better track record available.

For me its mid-year break 2007. Wait and see if our form translates into 2007. If we are playing similar footy as we are now then hes not going to want to leave just as we are on the verge of success. If we need to raise his salary then to compete then its justified, not many vic clubs will be able to outspend the dockers anyway.

The only contract renewal we need to be focusing on is Pavs!

I think the offer of a secure contract (from say Melbourne, Geelong, Essendon, St Kilda, Colingwood, Hawthorn; all of which could plausibly be looking for a coach) would outweigh whatever POTENTIAL increase in $$$'s Freo may offer IF they decided they did want to renew his contract.

Best way to re-assure Pav (not that I subscribe to the "Pav wants to go home to Adelaide paranoia") would be to have stability at the club which is heading in the right direction.

IMO contracts dont mean to much these days .all it does is make sure the player is paid at least the same amount at the next club and the club have to give something in return for him,with coaches they get paid a percentage of the contract when sacked but both can leave if they want

I belief is that connolly has an option of another year after 2007 if we make the finals 2006.

If we win a final and are 7-5 or better and playing good footy midseason 2007 then extend him to 2009. If we don't win a final and his contract is extended before the 2007 season I will be very angry.
