Does anyone have a list of what the AFL and the federal govt contributed to recent stadium redevelopments that were undertaken by state governments?
Specifically thinking of SCG, Metricon, Spotless, Adelaide oval, plus any others?
And also the most recent changes at MCG which I guess were pre commonwealth games?

the victorian government chips in little to the AFL
Etihad stadium is built on private funds
MCG most up grades are payed by the MCC

can we get some evidence of this, i remember the WA government did chip in some money.
but wouldnt WA be more concerned building it self a decent stadium first

The amount of money taken from WA by the federal government and given to SA exceeded the contribution of the SA government to the Adelaide Oval.

Hence the WA taxpayer paid for the Adelaide Oval development

every state and territory, has money taken from them to go to the federal budget. hence every state and territory payed for the Adelaide oval to be developed, not just WA

GST distributions m8.

And the amount taken from WA and given to SA via GST exceede the SA government contribution to the oval.

SCG Funding:
AFL: nothing
Federal: nothing.
NSW: 30%
SCG trust: 70%

next development should see the NSW government contribute a lot more as it involves state assets like trams.

ANZ stadium will get a roof and the SCG will become a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment district as part of a $500 million overhaul of Sydney’s sporting venues.

The two new super stadium projects are at the heart of a dramatic plan to be unveiled by the state government within weeks that will put Sydney ahead of Melbourne in the race for major sporting events.

A consortium led by Australia’s leading retailer, Gerry Harvey, and advertising guru John Singleton is expected to be the successful tenderer to revamp the SCG Entertainment Quarter, which insiders claim will transform the historic Moore Park site into a leading sporting, restaurant and entertainment destination. The lease will be granted for between 35 and 50 years.

Much of the funding will come from a sport and cultural fund that is part of the Rebuilding NSW Plan recently announced by Premier Mike Baird.

Sports Minister Stuart Ayers, who will unveil the proposed changes within weeks, said: “As one of the most competitive and densely populated sports markets in the world, Sydney deserves two world-class rectangular Tier 1 stadiums.

“Western Sydney should also have a high quality Tier 2 facility that can support the needs of its growing population.

“A collaboration between stadium operators, private sector and the NSW Government is crucial if we are going to deliver genuinely world-class sporting precincts. This will help end years of ad hoc and low value spending on NSW stadiums.”

ANZ stadium will have a state of the art roof constructed over it, solving some of the chronic problems with the venue. Seating will not change, however, meaning spectators will still be sitting the same distance from the field.

Mr Ayers believes the roof will create a unique, climate-controlled atmosphere unmatched anywhere in Australia, even with only 20,000 fans inside.

“While the NSW Government will never dictate where sporting events will be played, a clearer investment strategy should allow sporting bodies to ensure the right games are played in the right venue,” he said.

Brookvale Oval will be the other major beneficiary in the plan, attracting $10 million for a renovation of its outdated facilities.

Leichhardt is likely to be the big loser, failing so far to attract any money for stadium redevelopment.

It is unclear if Penrith will be included in any redevelopments but Mr Ayers’ acknowledgment that the west of Sydney does need a Tier 2 redevelopment is promising for his home electorate of Penrith.

Parramatta has already been pencilled in for a $29 million upgrade.

The government has opted for the “two stadium” policy which will see Allianz given a major overhaul to become the best rectangular venue anywhere in the country. New eating areas, bars and state of the art technology will be added to the current plans for improved traffic and pedestrian access.

The Entertainment Quarter has been a white elephant for more than a decade, with retailers unable to achieve any foothold on the Sydney shopping scene.

If successful, Harvey and Singleton will head a consortium that will transform the rundown precinct into a hub for restaurants, community activities, major retail, much of it with a sporting flavour, and easy access to the SCG and Allianz Stadium.

The plans are believed to include the provision to knock down the walls between the SCG and the EQ, making the entire area more user friendly.

“This should be one of the most exciting developments in Australia,” Mr Harvey said. “We want it to deliver a great experience for the community. It won’t happen overnight and it will be done in consultation with everyone — the local residents, the retailers, the NSW Government, the SCG Trust and the Centennial and Moore Park Trust.

“Everyone has an idea on what this precinct should look like. We want to know what they think and deliver on its potential. Its proximity to the airport and to the CBD mean it should be avenue for all Australians, a genuine attraction.

“There should be a mix of modern, state of the art retail and restaurants, as well as a feel for the history of the place. It is time the people of Sydney became excited about this precinct.”

As a Victorian taxpayer I find it appalling that anyone could be unaware the Vic taxpayer pumps $ millions into the MCC each year to reduce debt & regularly pumps $millions into redevelopment of the MCG - where have you been bomber6?

Spotless Stadium won't be getting an upgrade.

ANZ Stadium have released their masterplan which includes a roof, doesn't mean it will happen. Something needs to give there though otherwise the government will get back a run down asset in 2031.

Allianz hasn't had a dime spent on it in 25 years and desperately needs an overhaul.

It's fair to say that all the balls are in the air on how the NSW government proceeds with stadia, the only certainty being that the solution will cost a fortune.

As a Victorian taxpayer and MCC member, I find it appalling that you are so blatantly wrong on this. Vic Government pumps no money into the MCC annually and debt is serviced by MCC members (around 100,000members x $600). Regularly pumps money into redevelopment? The Vic Govt put zero into the southern stand in early 90s and about 20% into the new northern stands in mid 2000s. They contributed about 50% of the cosmetic upgrades to the southern stands. About 15% of the existing seats are taxpayer funded. MCC members are taxpayers too.

Google "mcc funding roar" so you understand it better.

So before you have your annual whinge again about AFL and MCC members at the Grand Final, keep the above in mind. I attended last Fridays Qualifying Final and will go again tonight. The public seats were empty last week, the AFL/MCC members were almost full, and this will be the same tonight. This wont stop the bleeding hearts will be sooking about not getting GF tickets when they havent been to the earlier finals.

Why would you google it Mr MCC member, check out your Annual Report & post an update acknowledging the nonsense posted above. If you cant read a set of financials just say so. Have good night at the game tonight.

& I certainly believe the members of the competing clubs have a right to a far bigger proportion of Grand Final tickets than they receive.

Perhaps you can tell us how much of the $6.50 printing fee for reserved seats is kicked back to the MCC - hopefully nothing, but the MCC is up to its armpits in the cost of a beer, a bucket of chips or a chocolate for the kids.
