Looks good in the trailer but i’m Going to wait for reviews. New mechanics & ideas are great for gaming progression but many end up not hitting the mark.

I'm only a couple of hours in but this might be my new front runner for game of the year.

Visually it can be spectacular. So many things going on when you use your powers. It can be jawdropping at times.

It feels like a mix of Quantum Break and Prey, with a little Alan Wake.

There seems to be a lot of performance issues on console, particularly for base consoles.

I'm not surprised since, on PC, this feels like a next gen title.

Enjoying it so far, the story is crazy and I have no idea what's going on but the gameplay is great. The destructive environments and level design is awesome.

Reminds me a heap of Prey, it has that similar linear-open structure. Also the feel is very similar with the crazy creatures and overall style too.

Hopefully the story goes somewhere, but even if it doesn't, right now I'm still enjoying it.

Also good hearing Max Payne's voice again!

There is some wonderful tie-ins to Alan Wake via the reports you collect throughout the game. What happened to Alan Wake is an 'Altered World Event', which is what the Bureau in Control specialise in. Nice way to explain the insanity of the earlier game.

Finished the story yesterday. A couple of side quests to finish up but otherwise I'm done.

Pretty clear GOTY for me so far. The narrative wasn't as tight as Alan Wake or Quantum Break but the world itself was very interesting. Gameplay was very strong and graphically it was jaw-dropping, particular when using telekinesis.

Loved the Metroidvania approach. The side-quests provided great content and there was lots of interesting (and often frustrating) bosses to be found in the side content.

How many hours for the story Calyam? I hope it's not a short game.

I assumed it was very Quantum Break, but you say there are side quests? So it's not as linear?

It is very Metroidvania. Open world that opens up as you learn new abilities.

At the beginning it is quite linear but as it progresses you can choose to focus on side content that takes you well away from the central quest.

Very different than Remedy's early games, which were all very linear.

I'm about 3 hours in and have to say this is much better than I thought it would be from what I had read prior to release. I'd basically written it off as a generic action game that would average about 6/10 from most reviews.

I have absolutely no ****ing clue what is happening with the story but it's certainly intriguing. I love the gameplay and level design and as someone else mentioned, it feels a bit like Prey (though I think that game was better).

On the down side there are some pretty bad performance issues (XBone) and it would be nice if the map system was a bit more detailed and useful.

Just finished it. Absolutely awesome.

The
Ashtray Maze was one of the best moments in gaming. The music and action, so damn good! Also loved the fake out ending to the boring office life that you have to "take control" of.

The gameplay was absolutely the star, as I still didn't really grasp the story much to be honest. But the gameplay was the purest definition of brilliant design and pacing. The introduction of mechanics and what that can open up was absolutely spot on and the mix of abilities to defeat enemies was perfectly balanced. I felt like I needed every mechanic that they gave to me in the skill tree in order to beat whatever enemies the game threw at me. There was also a really nice diversity with the enemies as well which definitely helped to keep it fresh.

Wasn't overly on my radar prior to it coming out, but turned out a damn big surprise. Great game.

I got this recently and I’m now halfway thru. Amazing game and also my GOTY so far. Very God of War or Spider-Man but with a cool, X-Files/Inception story and vibe. I had patch 1.03 on the pro and I haven’t encounter too many performance issues although occasionally notice one but hasn’t bothered me.

Highly recommend if you like story driven action RPG’s.

Gonna have to get this and borderlands. Was gonna just get b3 but can’t ignore the reviews and what everyone’s saying about this game now haha

I finally started this yesterday. Remedy need to optimise their Northlight engine a bit more I think. The environments aren't that big or detailed, there are never many enemies on screen at a time yet the performance tanks on standard consoles and mid range PCs. I'm glad I'm on something powerful but it doesn't look like it at times. It was a similar story with Quantum Break.

As for the game, this is my kind of creepy. I can't do horror games or jump scares but I love the atmosphere of this game. Not many games I spend time reading the collectables either. So far it's a pretty decent game, but I wonder if it would have been better as a next-gen launch title to expand it a little more and allow more people to run it on better systems. When I searched for how long to complete this game as I usually do so I can pace myself it seems pretty short. That might be disappointing for some so wait for a sale, but it's perfect for me because there are a couple RPGs I plan on smashing out next before the end of the year.

This is the one game this year i wanted that i skipped at launch, decided to get borderlands 3 so i could play that with my brother, nephew and friends and get Control when it goes on sale and i have time. Hopefully it goes on sale on psn store or jb for around $40 soon.

PlayStation were bombarding me with emails about it on sale on the PSN store not long ago. Not sure how much it was though. Reckon it will get the same discount if not more at Christmas given it hasn't sold that well on any platform.

Own it and is on my list of things to play very soon now that there's no real games to review for 4-6 weeks. Absolutely loved Quantum Break and Alan Wake

Yeah it was around the $60 range i think. Saw it for $59 at jb atm but want to get through a few other games first, still playing death stranding, NFS heat and just finished star wars so hoping it will be one of the 12 days of Christmas games, they normally go for more than 50% off.

For those who have finished,

When is it worth while exploring? I've got level 5 clearance and just finished the black rock section, so off to find Dylan. I've noticed some areas are still out of reach and it seems like there are some more abilities to learn. I assume it would be a waste of time exploring now?

Also, I've had a couple Research missions pop (assuming they're different from executive directives) and both times I've completed them those areas have had never ending enemies spawn making it a little tough to explore those areas. Is that a bug or normal?

I explored all throughout, whenever I got a chance to. It's obvious the spots you can and can't go to, so it's never not worth the time to explore and dig into the little hidden areas.

I don't remember there being never ending enemy streams though, that does sound like a bug.
