I think it would of been fairer to Mclean to put him up against Silvia or Tenace. Only the most one eyed Dee's fan's or nuff nuff's could vote for Mclean over the Coondog.

By the way i think that Mclean is a damn good footballer and would love to have him at the Bulldogs.

He had an off day and was visibly ********ed off, especially after dropping that simple mark in the centre. He made up for it though with that f'in ace goal on the run from the boundary line.

I love having McLean at Melbourne but Cooney was taken at #1 for a reason, he is the best player from that year without a doubt. This takes nothing away from McLean who will be a 200+ gamer and fututre leader but Cooney is a gun.

As for McLean being a sook, ffs, if you know anything about him you'll realise he is anything but a sook.

Both are wonderful players, but like someone said earlier, Cooney was a #1 pick for a reason - he's a gun.

Good post and I totally agree with you in the regard that he is exactly what you need. Look at my post above, I am always the first to say when another side's youngster does something very well, whether it be a good game or a single goal. For McLean this week it was a goal but that 13 tackle game is very impressive. In McLean & Sylvia you have your grunt work done for the next 10-12 years.

BTW, Im extremely happy with the Coon. If you get the chance just sit back & watch this kid strut his stuff against Port. Like watching good pr0n, only a little bit better.

i reckon it would be interesting if you put cooney in a weak midfield. carlton for example and see how he'd go. i reckon mclean would be better at gettin the ball himself and dominating without relying on those around him.

i guess at the end of the day both teams are happy and i doubt either team would wanna trade if a 1 on 1 trade was available. they are both rated extremly highly at their respective clubs

I dont have the stats but i think you'll find McLean has alot less game time per match than Cooney does but the difference in stats and quality of possesion would be minimal. McLean is the better player on the better team at the moment

wouldnt say he is a better player Y_C. cooney is more consistant but you are right he gets more game time.

thats cos we rotate our midfield much more while the dogs have less depth so cooney gets more gametime which is good for his development

I think if the Dogs offered Cooney for McLean staight swap right now, Melbourne would leap at the opportunity. Cooney will be a matchwinner if he's not already, and has far more class than McLean.

And Cooney is also in a midfield rotation. Lately he's been spending plenty of time up forward, even started a game in the goalsquare, and he also gets a bit of bench time

McLean will be good, Cooney will be great

and no melbourne wouldnt take that swap. we have plenty of flashy matchwinners in johnstone, bruce n green who are all arguably at this stage better then cooney (especially bruce n TJ). we however lacked grunt n in and under players until we got syulvia mclean and moloney.

mclean aswell as some others is gunna take melbourne to success in the next 10+ years. we definatly wouldnt trade him for cooney even though he is also gunna be a star. mclean is just more valuable to melbourne then he is to cooney.

Less depth = Weaker midfield then Melbourne's.

You just contradicted yourself. Your midfield is alot stronger then our midfield... So how would McLean go in our weaker midfield? Stupid comment.

Better player I think not. Remember a bloke called Des Headland who dominated when he was playing for the all conquering Lions outfit? It's easier to get a kick in a side thats playing well.

ALso, Cooney spend's 1/3rd of each game resting in the forward pocket or full forward, hardly positions where you can get dozens of possesions.

Cooney is the standout. He is the better player at the moment and will be in the future.

I have it on good authority that EVERY side in the AFL would have taken Cooney with their #1 pick. One simple reason, he has a MASSIVE upside. McLean is your more ready made footballer, strong body & neat skills, Less upside. Recruiting is not based on how good the player will be when he is 19-20 but when they are 23 onwards. Lets be patient and what till these boys grow into men.

I know we have on our hands the man that will don the famous #3 guernsey. That in itself speaks volumes of how highly A.Cooney is regarded by the Bulldogs.
