I have been on record about this but I just want to put it out there again. I think this kid could be special. If he can stay injury free everything about him screams class to me. Tough, tackles well and uses it brilliantly. One thing in particular I liked was how he finishes in front of goal so well. He has been out for a while and I think people forget how promising he looked. Anyway I really hope for his sake and the teams that he can get a good long run at it and show people how good he can be!

Good penetration with his kicking and a tenacious little tackler.

My concerns is he is to small for anywhere except forward pocket and he doesnt have the scoreboard impact for that role.

I think he got 15 goals in his first 20 games or so..

Decent return as a rookie before he got hurt..

If he can return to that this year I’d take it for what is in playing time a second year player. Would want that to build of course as well.

Forward pocket specialist with injury problems will likely be gone at the end of the year.

I think he could be a star, but he's had a long lay off so I don't expect much from him this year. Will likely spend a large portion of the year regaining match fitness. All I want is for him to stay injury-free, play 18-22 games (VFL or AFL, doesn't matter) and set himself for a big 2019.

Best thing that can come from today is Gregson coming through the game strongly.
I'll be happy with unscathed

Doesn't even need to be strongly for me...

My left foot in Cory Gregson's past as he looks to write new script
By Peter Ryan
3 March 2018 — 1:58pm

"It was June 2016 when Geelong's compact small forward Cory Gregson played his 29th and most recent game for the Cats.

A month later mature-aged recruit Sam Menegola made his debut for the club.

By the end of last year 11 players – including free agent Scott Selwood and recruit Aaron Black – had played their first game in the blue and white hoops since Gregson first suffered the navicular injury".

I did enjoy the article, but this bit stood out to me

he is now one of a platoon of small forwards at the Cats, with Parsons, Lincoln McCarthy, Brandan Parfitt, Gryan Miers, Jamaine Jones and Daniel Menzel all eyeing off roles inside 50 that now demand players be mobile and able to win contested ball at ground level.

Not sure Pete has watched Menz play too many games

I agree that he could be a very good player. People have forgotten how good he was in his first year - I'd argue just about our best first year player since Selwood, though obviously nowhere near that elite level. I don't remember him as a particularly showy player but he just did all the fundamentals well and looked at home in the 1s from the get-go. He dropped off a bit in his second year and has since spent so long on the sidelines that it's understandable if people don't remember how promising he looked, however. Obviously there are concerns going forward with his size, injury issues and match fitness but I really want to see him get a clear run at it and prove himself. He deserves a chance and, bloody hell, it'd be nice if we could have a promising young guy make it through a long patch without his leg falling off for once.

100% agree with the bolded above. He played 20 games in arguably the toughest position on the ground and was a genuine asset. I've said it before but 2019 is his year, this season he just has to build back to his best.

And I would categorize Menzel and Parsons @ 6'2" to 6'21/2" (189-190cm) as medium to medium tall players rather than smalls.

Let's just remember when he goes well that he was my boy first....

Well second as old mate ChookNorris was first I think ... but I was loudest :D
The best things are always shared my friend. Although I’m still in mourning for his original hairdo.

I’m happy with my Loud Constable claiming after today.

Will get better with a few games under his belt... Should be pushing for Best 22, needs to play at his best to stay in I reckon... if we have a fit squad.

Just happy to see him get through ok..

Good for his confidence and good to let him see where he needs to get back to.. flashed some nice things but still a long way off - to be expected- looking for him to force his way back into 22 in a few weeks

Go Catters

This is Smedts 2.0.

I get that some of you guys love the story of him coming back and all, but he's nowhere near good enough to be close to our best 25-28, let alone our best 22. Never was. He did some shocking turnovers yesterday (63% DE) and didn't put enough forward pressure on. When you're his size you need to be lightning quick or deadly around goals. He's neither and his field kicking is deplorable at times.
