Would we consider chasing Corey Jones from North Melbourne. I'm not sure exactly how old he is, but i'm guessing about 27. Seems to be on the outer there this year, but certainly can play and would be a good second option in the forward line.

i know we only want to draft younger players, but if we rely on those guys to come good we could be waiting for that premiership for another 4-5 years.

what are peoples thoughts??

Handy player, and reliable kick for goal, but not big enough to hold down a key post, and has a tendency to go missing for extended periods in a game. At 27 I say pass.

Would be much more inclined to chase a younger guy like McKinley.

I just looked it up and yes, he is 27, turns 28 in Feb.

I'm thinking a straight swap for Houlihan or something like that. At the end of the day it really doesn't cost us anything, two players pretty similar age, but Jones would probably suit our forward line a little more.

Last year i'm sure he was almost all-australian, so he can play. Might be a little undersized, but does play tall. takes a lot of marks on the lead.

Would be the perfect definition of a sideways trade...no club really wins or loses.

Putting all of the negative crap that get's written about Hoops aside, he has been a reasonable player for a long period of time...it would seem Ratts is keen to play him up forward, which would basically mean we have an exciting new recruit for 2009.

No way would i trade Houlas for Jones.

TBH, I can't think of 1 player in our line-up who i'd be happy to see pushed aside and replaced with Jones. His consistency isn't up to scratch.

Ideally i'd have our forward line as

Betts Fev Fisher
Houla Cloke Russell

Which of those would you replace with Jones ?

If we were going to try and trade to make our forward 6 stronger, i'd rather see something done where we off-loaded Fish and got hold of Lonergan or McKinley.

Mckinley isnt going anywhere....

You might want to Hunt down Chad Jones who was recently de-listed from the eagle, can kick a bag in the WAFL, his only flaw is he manages to injure himself when he's about to hit any type of form in the AFL

Corey Jones + a Draft Pick>>> Carlton
Marc Murphy>>> North

OR

Corey Jones>>> Carlton
Kade Simspon>>> North

You need a lead up CHF/Flanker.
We need a good ball winning midfielder.

Thoughts?

Carlton supporters would start a riot if we traded Murphy especially for Jones and a draft pick.

The second one is more reasonable however personally Id rather kep Simpson.

Do you know something ?
Yes, when he Announced "i want to be a one club Player" his parents stated on television "he's very happy in perth" gave me hints that i dont think he wants to leave.

Tried hard to leave last year, but couldnt get it done, thats where i think all this mckinley talk is from, but situations chance, and i have no doubt he'll stay at the eagles.

Gee, North come out way on top in both of those suggested trades. What a shock.

Now that he's got a regular starting spot at FF I'd expect he'll stay as wel.

Given Marc Murphy is a number 1 pick who has clearly delivered he would be worth atleast one top 5 pick and one pick from 5 to 10.

Dont need corey jones. he is just another Brad Fisher (dont need two Brad Fisher's, ours is good enough). I think draft a good tall early in the draft and keep edwards and give him first crack at 2nd tall.

Let the 18yr old recruit settle in and put on size for a year or 2. Hopefully with the improvement in Bower, Austin, Jamo, T-Bird we can release Waite back to CHF or have Kruezer (with another pre-season under his belt) as roaming forward/ruck.

Had a pretty bad year and was dropped this week. His surgery during last year's finals may have limited his pre-season. He also signed a new contract earlier in the year.

Correct,

I doubt the Kangas would trade for a soft bloke who wont chase or tackle no matter how good his skills are.

The Kangas are smart enough to realise that you cant succeed with those sort of blokes in your side.

None of the top sides are carrying those sort of players.

You can't suceed without these players either. Every team needs a good combo of outside and inside players.

Houlihan does chase, just because he isn't the best tackler doesn't mean he is completely useless. A good side with good inside midfields could seriously use him delivering the ball lace out to forwards in the 50.

Players in the top team who are outside rather than inside with good skills:

-Travis Varcoe
-Cameron Stokes
-Joel Corey
-Josh Hunt
-Grant Birchall
-Xavier Ellis
-Farren Ray
-Ryan Griffen
-Lindsay Gilbee

There are others who are borderline outside as well.

None of these blokes are soft and all chase and tackle. All put their head over the footy when they have to. Hoops has shown time and time again he wont.

Unfortunately one way players who wont do the hard stuff will not be in the side when we are successful.

Ok name the soft blokes who dont tackle or chase in the top teams.

Ok, here's some of the 'soft' players who should not get a game in a decent AFL side because they chase and tackle less than Hoops:

Matthew Scarlett, Tom Harley, Cam Mooney, Jordan Lewis, Trent Croad, Stephen Gillham, Jason Akermanis, Brad Johnson, Ryan Hargrave, Lindsay Gilbee, Scott Welsh, Barry Hall, Michael O'Loughlin, Peter Everitt, Nick Riewoldt, Max Hudghton, Fraser Gherig, Sam Fisher.

And yes I am saying that (when played in position, in a team that gets their share of the ball) I'd rate Hoops with most in that list in terms of skill.
