the problem with Judd is that he is getting to the twilight of his career which isn't to say that he has passed it. I am sure we will see a few good years out of him yet and his impact on Carlton has been impressive this year. But Joel Corey is also an elite midfielder and probably one of the most under-rated in the AFL. Always averages 30 odd touches a game. The only thing Judd has over him is that Judd is much better at the hard ball/contested side of things, where Corey is more an outside midfielder who gets the ball and runs it off. Judd of course reads the play better than anyone which is why he is so good IMO.
But I agree with hamG, I would consider a swap for Kerr if Joel was in agreeance with it ie he wanted to head home to WA to play. But if Joel wishes to remain a Cat for his career then we should keep him.
I think it's a myth that Joel isn't about the hard ball as much. You only need to look at the stats to see how important he is for us in getting it. And in terms of one percenters, he's all over Judd. Yes, Judd can break the lines and look impressive in bursts, but Joel is probably one of the most underrated stars in the comp (as you said). For those who are doubters, put the smother from last years prelim on loop and watch it till you realise how much this guy does for us, and how important he is. Judd is a great player, but there is no room for more superstars in the Geelong team. Wouldn't replace Joel for the world.
If both players were available in a draft, id take Judd before Corey.
For Geelong i'd keep Corey because of his durability and consistency. Having too many stars is not a good thing; Corey plays his role beautifully while Judd would just get in Ablett and Jimmy's way.![]()
Corey is a star. And I don't agree with the bolded part of your post. It wasn't that long ago that Geelong 'didn't have any stars'. 18 months later we are a star studded unit. Winning football matches creates stars....and vice versa.

No. Corey fits in with our structure as we know and he seems to be getting better and better. Judd is a class act of course but I don't see him getting better and better. I think Corey will still be going around when Judd hangs up the boots.

No, and not because i think Corey is better than Judd.
Every team needs different styles of players that play different roles within the team. Judd and Ablett are very similar, ball carriers, highly skilled that break the lines. We have Ablett in Judds role, Joel plays the wide running role and carries the ball.
They are differet types of players, and we wouldnt want to swap Joels role in the team for another Ablett type. It would be great to have Ablett and Judd together but its about getting the right balance (which we have at the moment)
