In the peak fortnight of the outbreak to date (25 August to 7 September), the COVID-19 case rate among 2-dose vaccinated people was 49.5 per 100,000 while in unvaccinated people it was 561 per 100,000, a more than 10-fold difference. The rates of COVID-19 ICU admissions or deaths peaked in the fortnight 8 September to 21 September at 0.9 per 100,000 in 2-dose vaccinated people compared to 15.6 per 100,000 in unvaccinated people, a greater than 16-fold difference.

The current lockdown aint working too well.
depends on your definition of working well

but yeah its great seeing people comment that they aren't following the rules because lockdowns dont work anyway like self fulfilling prophecy there buddy

so yeah almost 3% positive rate from yesterdays tests
2 days in a row over 2k new cases

NSW cases peaked with a first dose coverage of 77% and second dose coverage of 44%

meanwhile we are at 87% first dose and 62% second dose and still no confirmation we've peaked

As I've said for a while, there's something really odd about the NSW vs VIC numbers.

They're literally required to have the documentation under the Public Health Order.

Most employees will already be vaccinated, so the 'good employee' that's not vaccinated will be in the minority.

I have 15 staff and everyone is complying, not that it's a big deal. But they were all written to by the owner and told in no uncertain terms how it was going to pan out if they didn't supply proof or booking for today by COB yesterday basically.

The understanding is that the case numbers are still made up for a considerably high amount of non vaccinated people, right?

Melbourne has colder weather which is a factor, but it doesn't explain the large differences.
The police aren't fining anyone.
There are store holders at the Preston market who refuse to wear masks and nothing is done about it.

A lot of these places were not authorised workplaces to operate during parts of the lockdown and they all did without a single check occurring. A friend owns a fabrication shop and he's not willing to lose a couple of good employees over it. Money talks.

These requirements will probably be phased out (if we follow NSW lead) so it's all theatre at this point.
He might still lose them over it

Care to extrapolate on this? I think it's purely down to fatigue. Can be seen spreading fast in the Eastern suburbs now.
Fatigue that's stronger than it needs to be.

Silly rules, curfew, golf/tennis, alcohol at picnics etc... have clearly resulted in Dan losing the people.

This is what governing with negativity rather than hope results in.

Yep. When HR came to me she took a picture of my digital covid certificate as a record

Murdoch Riots help explain a fair bit

more a question of why with less unvaccinated people for it to spread through than NSW had at their peak we are still so high

As in, given the restrictions and vaccination rates and population sizes, we shouldn't be seeing such a large disparity in numbers. So either NSW is missing cases, or VIC is seeing huge amounts of people not at all abiding by the restrictions.

Both of which are quite possible.

I sit in an office that views two main roads in a relatively small suburb - the traffic is back at normal levels. That can't coincide with how many businesses are still locked down.

Also; the majority of people in my friendship circle and family are all socialising at peoples houses. Perhaps not in big groups but in a subtle enough way so as not to draw attention. Week in, week out. It's almost as if things were normal, aside from the major part of not socialising at hospitality venues or in overly large groups. Going to a mates place for drinks/dinner remains relatively unchanged.

I highly doubt this, Melbourne is colder than Sydney but the difference in weather is not that great.

We've got 1 out of about 100 that's anti-vaxx. They've been told they won't be working as per Government requirements, given their role can't be done remotely.

Their anti-vaxx Facebook group letter won't help them.

We'll see how they go I guess.
From the morning crew we have had 1 out of around 70 or so. No idea on the afternoon crew yet

Yeah, it's a funny one, Sydney is more 'open' now so we'll see if their numbers climb I guess.

Covid positive people can visit their families and spread it and not get in any trouble.

Someone goes to work unvaccinated and gets fined.....

Makes sense

You get on the spot fined for attempting to enter a cafe or other premise if not vaccinated when they reopen.
